The enigmas Chambers & Robinson

Sat Jul 19, 2025 2:01 pm

With the start of the season 2 weeks off, where do you see Chambers and Robinson playing guys? And do they both make your first 11?

I've not been impressed with Chambers overall but feel his best games were sat in front of the back 4 in the holding midfield role. I'm really interested to see where BBM plays him. If its at centre back I'll be a bit disappointed but if he plays him at CDM or RB he might win me round straight away for having the balls to play him there from the off (it might also suggest he's done his homework on where we went wrong last season which would be great). For me, he'd make my first team but only at CDM.

With Robbo, I'm not sure he's gonna fit into BBM's pressing game. If we play a 442 then he'd be the obvious partner for Salech up top. However, I'm not so sure BBM is the type of modern head coach to play that formation. If it's a 433 or 451 I don't see Robbo getting in the first team. He hasn't the pace to play on the wings and I think the likes of Colwill or Turnbull will beat him to the number 10 role. For me, he wouldn't make my starting 11 but he's a good option off the bench.

Of course, both might be sold before Aug 2nd which makes these next 2 weeks so interesting.

I agree that it really depends on the formation.

If it’s a 433 then I wouldn’t have Robbo in the starting 11, I’d have Salech through the middle of course and two players with pace who can play a high press - Robbo isn’t that type of player so would probably fit better rotating with Salech.

As for Chambers, I think it depends on if Wintle is in BBMs plans.

Wintle I imagine will play the 6 if he is, which would suggest that Chambers would be at CB - he didn’t impress really at CB and I remember Josh Murphy ripping him to pieces when he played RB at Arsenal. Granted, this is a lower standard of football and he should be good enough to play both positions at this level.

My guess is that Wintle will probably start in midfield and the manager will have been told that the club will do everything they can to get Chambers off the wage bill before the end of the transfer window.

If Chambers, a former England International at only 19 and player of the season at a Premier League Club (admittedly relegated) and Robinson our top scorer last year, who has loads of talent are not considered automatic starters in League One, what is going on at the club!! I like both of them but if they aren't going to start, get rid of and bring someone in who is :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Chambers is more versatile works hard .

Robbo is a luxury we cant afford to play in Div 1 so not first eleven as results will.need to.be gtound out with a committed eleven.

Having Robinson would be ideal.

If Salech gets a knock, then you’re relying on Etete, or Davies who’s better as a winger.

We definitely need him and Salech.

Watching club videos, I get the feeling that Robinson is staying.

Played and scored in the friendly yesterday.

If either were desirables they'd been gone now , perhaps our naughty owners have placed them on very high wages that no one wants to pay ?

i think both will be transfer deadline day transfers.

If you need a sitter, someone to break up play, Chambers can fill that position, and Robinson can be a squad striker in the championship. They'll be afterthoughts rather than specific targets, but i think they'll be gone

I'm with you on this, Robinson saying all the right things but will be gone in a heart beat if his agent can get him a move back to the championship, i just don't think that he's got the appetite for a physical challenge in league 1. Chambers needs to be told where he plays this season, CH or in midfield and keep him there another who would be gone in a heart beat if a club came in for him. If they both stay great.(i'll be amazed if they do)

Sell Robinson if we can. What a waste of money giving him a new expensive contract was. Get a younger replacement who works for the team. End of.
