O/T Best gig you've been to

Fri Jul 18, 2025 8:46 pm

I want to watch the Oasis comeback recently.

Serious good, Liam sounded better than ever and the instrumentals were spot on. Noel great on the instrumentals too.

Only paid £600 for the privilege.

Another highlight for me was seeing Kings of Leon before they were famous, £20 in Gloucester in front of about 200 people.

What's the best music gig you've been to?

I saw Genesis a couple of times back in the day; once with Peter Gabriel in London and once with Phil Collins in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Both were fantastic gigs

I also see most ‘gigs’ at the MillStad, and I have to say as a non-fan, that Oasis the other week were incredible; particularly after a 26 year break!

Overall, though, I thought Taylor Swift was incredible in her first Cardiff visit! Her ‘show’ was out of this world! :ayatollah:

Oasis were incredible Chris.

I've seen them both perform separately but there's something about Liam and Noel together. Just brilliant.

The performance of "Live Forever" was out of this world.

Queued overnight in the freezing cold to get tickets for that Genesis concert at Sophia Gardens in 1980.

Tickets cost £3.50 and that's what you paid - none of this "dynamic pricing" bollocks or waiting ten hours online to be told that you were number three million in the queue when Ticketmaster and Viagogo had already bought all the tickets and were selling them for a massive mark up.

Queued again for hours on the day of the gig to get down the front as soon as the doors opened and loved every minute of it.

Followed the band after the concert to the Post House in Pentwyn where they were staying and got their autographs!

Peter Gabriel had played Sophia Gardens about three weeks earlier on the tour promoting his third album and was also superb.

Happy days! :old:

Saw Linkin Park before Chester passed away and they were almost too good, sounded just like their studio stuff.

Aerosmith are amazing live and it feels like a real show.

We were lucky, a couple of our group queued for the tickets but I agree it was much better/fairer then!

I wasn’t at the Cardiff Gabriel gig but I saw him later, and I also saw the Steve Hackett Band, and Mike and the Mechanics separately. Hackett was in the Top Rank and his support act was a ventriloquist called ‘Magritte the Rat’, who was hilarious and (we think) later became Roland Rat!

Fantastic days! Everything seemed so much simpler! :ayatollah:

Ozzy & Black Sabbath, Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb og God, Mastadon, 2 weeks ago at Villa Park. An amazing day with the creme de la creme of Heavy Metal playing their stuff. Steven Tyler singing Zepplin's 'Whole Lotta Love' was unforgettable. The guy's a legend! Ozzy rules tho :occasion5:

I recently watched the first part of the Back to the Beginning video and going to watch the second part when I can kick my missus out for a few hours. Incredible line-up who did not disappoint! Must have been an amazing atmosphere there.

Manics are fantastic, a proper band that can sing live.

Ready For Drowning is one of my favourite songs.

Probably in my top five of the best I've seen live alongside Oasis and Muse.

That is an incredible line up, mad for Zep, Zappa, Airplane, Byrds and the rest that’s insane. Shame I was only 1 at the time! New footage of Zep playing there recently discovered and is on you tube. Dazed and Cinfused and How Many More Times

My mate works for Oasis got me four tickets, gave them to my son and his mates , I went hiking. Could have made a fortune.

Not a fan at all!Not a patch on Stone Roses for me. Liam’s right! I get it though, genuinely lovely to see the joy it brought , and to the Gallagher pension pots!

Slade, Sophia gardens pavillion December 1981, they were brilliant, they sang "we'll bring the house down" and indeed they did, days later the roof collapsed under the weight of snow and the whole building had to be demolished.
