Last season, we conceded 73 league goals.

The defence has only gotten weaker, due to outgoings.

This squad isn’t good enough to get us out of League 1. It will be. But it’s not right now.

I'm totally bemused at people thinking we will have a successful season.

Our goalkeepers and defence are nowhere near good enough and we lack energy and steel in midfield.

I felt Rinomhota could have been very valuable for us at League 1 level with his box to box engine, picking up the loose balls and doing the dirty side of the game to allow Wintle, Robertson and Colwill to play. Those 3 aren't the most mobile and they won't handle an aggressive, high intensity, streetwise team getting amongst them. It was a massive mistake letting Rinomhota go. Hopefully Eli King can step up, he looked good when I watched him play Wrexham last season.

Then there's our inexperienced manager, who will be learning along the way following his relegation with Rochdale. I will give him fair time and support him. He talks well and his training looks good. I still think he's a big gamble, but hopefully he proves me wrong.

No team conceded more soft goals and threw away as many points as us last season. That's why we came bottom. We need to sign a new goalkeeper and defence. I'm happy enough with Bagan at left back, but the rest of the defence should be replaced, unless Chambers stays and Lawlor breaks through.

People thinking we have enough quality to go straight back up are living in cuckoo land. I'm fearing another long, frustrating season. Hopefully, we sign a few new defenders and a midfield enforcer with legs. We really need to bring some leaders in, as we can't even decide on a captain!

Different manager with different ideas plus a weaker division should mean we'll at least be ok. Additions will surely improve us further. :bluescarf:

Totally with you on his one Tonteg.

I am praying I'm wrong but I feel we are all going to see this very soon.

Completely agree.

No one posted this sort of stuff when we finished bottom of the league in the prem.

No one at that point said ‘oh no this team got us relegated, they will get us relegated again’

I say it’s worrying and the OP is right in what he says.

Can anyone honestly compare now with last season If can let's compare? I see no one compares upfront as this is surely our strong point! Only comparison is we'll be playing Luton plymouth. :o

Great post matching my feeling exactly. A squad that finished bottom, no fight, no leaders, and many posters say they are optimistic, well \im not knocking them we need all the optimism we can get and its important we channel that from the terraces to the players, but deep down that optimism feels like blind faith. And we have a manager who bossed Rochdale for two seasons! We struggled to get out of this league the last time we were in it and that was with Earnie, Kav and the like

Well we all said during last season that a big part of our issues of leaking goals was because Riza would keep changing the defence.

Half the job of defending is building relationships, that can't happen if you change the defence every game.

We need a consistent back five (including goalkeeper) to have a strong defence.

I maintain my belief that this squad wildly underachieved last season and are good enough for at least top six in L1.

I agree. The biggest ‘issue’ for me last season was how teams so regularly opened us up directly through the middle. It was so transparent, yet no one on the coaching side managed to sort it out!

Let's be realistic here bbm is basically a youth coach brought in because he's the cheap option there's no escaping this fact so hopefully he can make our younger players better but remember he was working with the elite youngsters to start with if our youngsters were anywhere near thus they've been snapped up ages ago

The cheap option that we had to pay compensation for.

Other clubs do it so why can't city do same without the snide remarks about his appointment?
