Grant Hanley

Thinking about an experienced centre half & leader. Hanley is a Bosman free. He's a Scottish international, has Premier League / Championship experience and finished last season at Birmingham helping them to win the League. He's 33 years old but ticks a lot of boxes. Here's his stats:

Good player in his day, but I don’t think that BBM is going to be bringing in players who are past their best - his whole ethos seems built on a younger squad.

Ideal for a Captain and what we need. 33 years not that old for what we want.

Sadly its not going to happen.

Joking, my mother could get past him these days and turns like the QEII. Would be a Warnock type signing though.

Absolutely not.

He's far too slow and too old.

Not going to comment on Hanley himself because I don't know what he is like these days, but its this type of player need.

I am old enough to remember a number of promotions from the lower leagues that were built on bringing in an experienced central defender from a higher league who was past his best but had plenty to offer at a lower level.

Mike England and Kevin Ratcliffe spring to mind in particular but another less well known would be Jimmy Mullen.

And even further back, the City side of the late sixties, early seventies were transformed from a struggling Second Division side into consistent promotion challengers and a good European side built upon the experience of Brian Harris signing from Everton as much as Toshack and Clarke

Ollie Norwood is a experienced midfielder at Stockport albeit he's 34 knows this league look at his stats for last season could be worth a punt
