Cardiff City 3-0 Southend United
Two goals for Salech and one for Joel Colwill
Second pre-season friendly within a few days for City, following the draw with Johor.
Today it was a 3-0 win over Southend.
Said the second half team did well against Johor but there were more positive signs today, especially in the first half. Most of the best players played in the first half.
Second half wasn't at the same level but the team still did well.
The team are getting used to the new system and seem to be improving all the time.
The high press was something I was very impressed about.
Rubin, Salech, Lawlor and Nyakuhwa were very good in the first half.
Eli King probably the standout player in the second half.
I'll repeat what I've said before, I don't judge friendly results but pleased with that, signs of progress for sure.

Enjoyable game, first half team looked the stronger 11
But nice to see such a young second half team do really well, will spiers was the one for me thought he looked really composed at right back
I think we're in for a good season I've said all along we will be in the top six and I stand by my call that keeping rubin will be the difference between top 6 and top 2

Spiers also did well actually, might go under the radar a bit but he's a good runner.

I always liked Will Spiers ever since he was converted from a winger to a fullback, feel sure he will progress this season

I think Ruben looked a bit knackered, when they did the warm down and did runs from goal to goal he was last and looked to he struggling maybe his fitness needs more work.Hope he comes good needs to he really fit to close down

First half Fish and Lawlor looked good together disappointed with Ashford .
Robertson looked out of it a bit alongside Joel Colwill and king
But it is preseason things will improve

We have to remember it was only Southend
Let’s not get carried away but green shoots are appearing

Without knowing much about Southend and which 11 were their strongest I thought we looked very good in the first half and you could see that the players were looking to pass the ball forward as first choice and quickly. I was disappointed in Ashford who looked off his game. Southend hardly got close to our box so was an easy day in first half for the defence.
2nd half we were very slow in the build up and felt a lot like last year and for me Southend were the better side for the first 25 minutes.
The positive from both halves was how the player worked so hard to get the ball back after losing it The squad really does need some quality additions but overall very positive

Friendliest are very difficult to assess team wise as management will often instruct to lower the press etc to see how the defence copes under pressure. Need to do that otherwise they may well get to the season start without bringing out under any pressure at all.

Are the goals anywhere from yesterday?

If one pressess well one wins.
Youthful legs on pitch & bench.
No pondering in your own half.
To press you need super fit players.
One also needs to recover lost ball .
If you piss the opposition off continually, harassing, pressing ,chassing down lost balls, and brake at speed .
Watch Warnock era .
Champions by March .

Like the high press and energy, let's see how they progress, but a three-nil win should be good for confidence both for themselves and in the system.
