Senior Cardiff City star Callum O'Dowda is set to complete a move away to a European clubWalesOnlineThe Bluebirds winger, who has predominantly played his football at left back in recent times, has been missing from pre-season training this week, prompting many supporters to speculate over the reason why that might be the case. And the Republic of Ireland international will be the first senior, contracted star out the door.
Cardiff allowed nine players to leave earlier this week upon the expiration of their contracts, with Michael Reindorf and Roko Simic also securing loan moves away.
The Bluebirds are focussed on trimming down their squad, but are also rightly adamant that they have to make additions in order to address key weaknesses.
They have Joel Bagan, who is now the longest-serving member of this Cardiff senior squad, Ryotaro Tsunoda, who is predominantly a left-footed centre-back, and Luey Giles, a promising if green academy product.
O'Dowda, 30, signed a new Cardiff deal at the beginning of the year, which sees him contracted to the Bluebirds until 2028 and would see him command a fee should he seal his exit.

I’m disappointed with this move, as I rate Callum highly and he only recently signed a new contract. But hopefully, the fed will be of a decent nature and the money used to get new players in but we’ll see

Chris this is one player that I desperately wanted to stay. We will have to see what transpires if he does go. And that we get a replacement same as or better, which me being negative cannot see it happening, fingers crossed that BBM has someone lined up and not a dud

30 years old and mostly played left-back.
A loss but I feel with the options we have it shouldn’t be so bad. Collect the money and hopefully we can make improvements to the squad that is really needed.

loved his passion. But last season he offered very little definately lost his pace as a winger, and was caught out of position a lot as a FB

I thought that was the case, Rog, so this just confirms suspicions the club (maybe not BBM) are getting senior players off the wage bill

This is a massive blow. If I had to select one player who I desperately wanted to keep, it would be Callum O'Dowda. He's way too good for League 1 though, so I will wish him well wherever he goes. If the rest of our squad had the same level of passion, dedication and professionalism, we would have been alright.

Thanks Callum. No hard feelings. Gave you're all when not injured. On your day, too good. Season 2 injured. On summary, a decent enough player.
Expected to leave. Get someone a bit more robust, with more of a goal return.

For me he was an average left back and wasted there.
I was hoping he would be used as a left winger this season.
Disappointed but onwards and upwards!

Good player, always played out of position and still gave his all. Will be missed.

Only player for the last season or two that would put a shift in.
My favourite player in the last few years.

Can't do much if he wants to go , great winger, shit left back , let's see who we bring in to replace him.

Probably nothing to do with the manager, can already see training is a level above what they’ve experienced previously.

Will be sadly missed

He tried hard but…. What did he actually deliver…
Can’t defend because he’s a winger, not a great winger because his crossing is awful. I think it was against Norwich a season or so back, 10 attempted crosses 1 got over the first man…. One of those players like Callum Robinson that the fans take to and like, the bottom line he massively underperformed, help to get us relegated and now is not up for the fight to take up back up… Cheerio.
For me he won’t be a big miss.

Gutted he’s leaving. One of the senior players I felt we really needed. Maybe he wants to play at a higher level who can blame him. Maybe he didn’t like how things are Going now. Who knows.
Good luck to him he will be missed.
