Full coaching staff confirmed

Tue Jul 01, 2025 3:05 pm

Brian Barry-Murphy’s coaching team for the 2025/26 season has been confirmed.

City’s Head Coach is joined at the Vale Resort by Assistant Head Coach Lee Riley, Head of Performance Kevin Gibbins and Goalkeeping Coach Gavin Ward.

Riley has previously worked with Barry-Murphy at Rochdale and Manchester City, whilst Gibbins joins the Bluebirds from Rochdale, where he had been Head of Football Science and Performance since 2019. Having arrived at the Club in September 2024, former City stopper Ward continues his spell with the Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds’ backroom has also been bolstered by the arrival of data analyst Rob Clarke, who will complement Lead First Team analyst Luke Foulkes and First Team analyst Matt Jenkins.

Pleased with this. Crucial that a couple of them were BBM's own people and they are.

I can’t be positive Sorry All Ex Rochdale:

Surely if all that good they would have been with other League Clubs by now?

Good luck to them , We will need it:

TAN OUT OUT

Think that's completely wrong.

BBM has already said that despite all the world class coaches he worked with at Man City, Riley is the best he's seen.

I want Tan out too but I'm not going to slate a manager or his coaches before they get a chance.

It is also imperative that the manager works with people he knows.

So yes I'm very pleased with this outcome.

Who are people expecting? Peps assistant! maybe slotts assistant?
This applies to any club outside premier leagues top 8 or so? Every manager loves to work with people they know it makes for continuity ... better than having a coach trying to get point across to someone who is not on same page because he's leftover from a poor set up at club

Any guesses:

1980–1981 Gainsborough Trinity
1981–1986 Burton Albion
1986–1989 Scarborough
1989–1993 Notts County
1993 Torquay United
1993–1995 Huddersfield Town
1995–1997 Plymouth Argyle
1997–1998 Oldham Athletic
1998–1999 Bury

Sheffield united fans were happy after Bury, then a few years later ........ :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Different Opinions Yet again Ned all the last managers for years.

Let’s hope I’m finally wrong.

I stand Strongly but it.

I agree to work with people you know, BUT ROCHDALE ???

It’s a BIG NO

I'd take BBM every day over attention seeking, pathetic and awful football from Nathan Jones.

Hopefully our fans will wake up to football in 2025 soon and see this is the right sort of appointment.

I don't think Tan out should have anything to do with supporting the manager. I think every manager should be given a fair chance.

But those already writing him off are showing they can't be objective while Tan is around, I find that sad because that's like letting Tan win.

Spot on Allan. People have totally unrealistic expectations.

Re: Full coaching staff confirmed

Tue Jul 01, 2025 4:38 pm

I don’t see why it’s only Rochdale that people keep mentioning.

Yes Rochdale were relegated, but I feel that was down to the finances at the club. I’m surprised they stayed up as long as they did.

Since then he has worked at one of the world’s best clubs.

As for the rest of the team, as I’ve mentioned before, there are very few coaches out there that people will have heard of.

I even posted the coaches of Liverpool, and no one knew who they were.

One of the big things for me is that he’s clearly been able to select his own team. To have a back room team who sing from the same hymn sheet is massive and something we haven’t had for ages.

Bulut wanted to play one way, Riza (as his assistant) wanted to play another way - how are the players meant to decipher how to play, when there’s conflicting instructions?

If it fails, then BBM must take the blame - after all, it’ll be his team and his players.

But at this point I have no reason whatsoever to presume it’s going to fail.

Therefore, I’m not going to moan for the sake of it.

Well said.

And people forget that he was praised while he was at Rochdale for how well he set them up. They went down because they had no money. That's is proved by the fact he went from there to the best elite academy in the country.

Doesn't get mentioned on here because it doesn't fit with the agenda.

To be honest, I'm sick of coming on here every day and seeing people write someone off before they get going.

Remember that some on here called Salech "another Kanga then" when he signed

Thankfully, the majority of the fanbase appear to be behind BBM - just some on here can't differentiate between wanting Tan out and supporting the manager.

Two excellent posts which I agree with.

I’m hopeful and positive about BBM.
If it all goes wrong I’ll be happy to admit I was wrong but I’ve no reason to believe that.

Nothing to do with Tan out which nearly everybody including myself want. This is purely about the football for the coming season and hopefully beyond.

All the others had no reputation, BBM has a good reputation. Plymouth also wanted him remember.

Lee Riley has been at Man City academy for years and they thought highly of him.

There were plenty of managers out of work we could have gone for so don't see how BBM is cheap when we paid compensation for both him and Riley?

I'm fed up of all the bullshit coming from some of our fans, they are living in the dark ages.

Had a good reputation at Rochdale and Man City academy.

Yes if this doesn't work I'll stand up and say I'm wrong. I don't mind being wrong, occupational hazard of giving an opinion.

But it feels different this time because the manager has an identity and knows exactly what he wants to do.

Again I completely agree with this.

We could have ended up with Buckingham (which was my preferred) and at that point people would have said that he was cheap because he was out of work.

I’m also in the same boat regarding some of our fans.

It was suggested that I ‘find a new forum if I don’t like it’ by a poster on here yesterday, as I mentioned how negative things had got regarding the club.

There are things to be negative about, yes. A lot.

But being negative about a manager and his team who haven’t even had time to get their feet under the table yet is synonymous with how our fans think these days.

I’m surprised they haven’t suggested we bring back Jeff Echardt to play as centre back.

I have heard all this before time and time again and fed up of all this bullshit.

I’ve been proven right time and time again.

I beg I am wrong

They are here because they are CHEAP CHEAP

TAN OUT OUT OUT

All the others had no reputation, BBM has a good reputation. Plymouth also wanted him remember.

Lee Riley has been at Man City academy for years and they thought highly of him.

There were plenty of managers out of work we could have gone for so don't see how BBM is cheap when we paid compensation for both him and Riley?

I'm fed up of all the bullshit coming from some of our fans, they are living in the dark ages.

Tan saying he has a good reputation:

As a Manager a good Reputation??

Ned,

My Friend, I am actually bored of been proven right and saying why these managers are not good enough.

To be fair when proven wrong you will stay and say you were wrong, the others disappear for weeks

Had a good reputation at Rochdale and Man City academy.

Yes if this doesn't work I'll stand up and say I'm wrong. I don't mind being wrong, occupational hazard of giving an opinion.

But it feels different this time because the manager has an identity and knows exactly what he wants to do.

Genuine request, can you supply a link to where the Rochdale fans praise him for the work he has done there?, The ones I found were very critical of him, so I would like to see the good points they make to balance it out.

I wasn't talking about Rochdale fans, more the football industry.

Believe it or not, the people in the industry know a lot more than most fans.

While Tan remains and choses We will Never go forward

That is true, but supporting the manager doesn’t mean that you support Tan

I’m fully supportive of the appointment but you will find it hard to find a positive review about BBM from Rochdale fans. For him to be picked up by Man City you have to believe he plays the game the right way but the play was totally alien to Rochdale fans and not suited for the situation they were in and the players they had. To be fair BBM seems to have acknowledged this and says he has benefited from his time with Pep and others. Time will tell

Every managerial appointment is a gamble.

But this one has reason behind it.
