Bale takeover talk 'exciting' and 'a great fit'

Former Premier League midfielder Lee Hendrie has described Gareth Bale’s bid to buy Cardiff City as an "exciting" development that could help rejuvenate the club following years of stagnation.

Bale is fronting a consortium that has approached current owner Vincent Tan with a proposal to take over the club. The Wales legend publicly confirmed he has serious ambitions to return his hometown team to the Premier League.

Cardiff are currently preparing for life in League One after suffering relegation from the Championship at the end of last season. But Hendrie believes Bale’s potential involvement offers a rare opportunity for a reset and a long-term vision for success.

“There’s been lots of links with Gareth Bale, and he’s come out publicly and revealed that he badly wants to help buy Cardiff City to take the Welsh side back to the Premier League,” Hendrie told Football League World.

“I think it’s exciting, I really do. Gareth Bale, behind the scenes at the football club, and clearly passionate about where he wants to take it – that’s something that should be looked at with a lot of purpose.”

The former Aston Villa man believes Bale’s high-profile backing and emotional connection to the Bluebirds could be just what the club needs after years of inconsistency and underachievement.

“It has been stood still for quite some time, and I think Gareth Bale quite openly says he wants to take the club to a level where it should be, which is quality to hear,” Hendrie added.

“He’s obviously looked at this in depth and feels there’s bags of potential, which there is at a football club of that status. I’m sure Cardiff fans will be absolutely relishing the fact of that, and I think this would be a new journey for Bale and Cardiff – I think it would be a great fit.”

Bale, 35, retired from football in 2023 after a stellar career that included five Champions League titles with Real Madrid and over 100 caps for Wales. He has made no secret of his desire to remain involved in the game and to invest in Welsh football.

Cardiff City have yet to comment publicly on the takeover speculation.

We live in hope. Why anyone would buy a football club baffles me. Along with static caravans must be one of the worst investments around lol

A proposal was put forward which is as good as a bid.

Buying a football club is not like buying something from an auction website.

They put forward their initial proposal (which was rejected). Talks will follow about negotiations and both parties will decide to move forward with it or not.

So no, not an official bid but something as good as.

Sometimes it looks like a good deal

In a post yesterday I highlighted the fact that clubs above 18th in the EPL tend to be valued around £400m and clubs around 12th-13th around £700m

There is the suggestion that Bale Consortium might be able to buy the club with limited initial investment (£25m) and be debt free by giving VT 25% of the shares in the new company.

So for Vincent Tan
25% for the £68m debt now
When the club is in the EPL his shares will be worth £100m - So Good Value as an extra £32m on top of the initial £68m

So for GB Consortium
75% for £25m initial investment
Club is worth £400m when in the EPL
75% of £400m = £300m less £25m = £275m profit.

Sounds great, apart from the ‘when the club is in the ePL bit’.
Seriously, it does sound good.

Think must put in PL bit or wint get get no deal done...... otherwise its one off offer of whatever tan wants? If Tan as turned fpwn overtones to give up majority shares can't see him selling this season unless Bale & Co offer near tans £150m+
