BBM has told Cardiff City to change transfer plans

Fri Jun 27, 2025 12:42 pm

Head Coach Brian Barry-Murphy begins to overhaul the club’s summer transfer strategy.

Barry-Murphy is beginning to impose his own vision on the squad following his appointment last week.

It is understood Cardiff had been advancing with their summer recruitment plans prior to his arrival, but those plans are now being reassessed.

The new head coach is believed to favour a different approach in terms of player profiles and squad structure, prompting the club to pivot from the strategy previously being pursued by the recruitment team.

With Cardiff preparing for their first League One campaign in over two decades, Barry-Murphy is keen to reshape the squad in line with his tactical and developmental philosophy.

Further ins and outs are expected over the coming weeks as the Bluebirds continue their preparations for the new season, which kicks off with a home clash against Peterborough United on August 2.

I’m glad to see this.

Since Warnock we have had managers who have been happy to go along with whatever the ‘club’ has set their sights on.

Only when a manager has control over who they want to bring into the side will we ever see a side capable of playing the type of football that said manager wants to play.

About time.

We just recruit anybody with no alignment with the philosophy or setup that the team has.

Very questionable signings over the last few seasons.

What is concerning is that it takes BBM to tell them this. A DoF would have sorted this already and we wouldn’t be blindly signing whoever is available.

I totally agree.

Yet some will still call him a yes man, even though it's obvious he isn't

Yet you make negative comments on a daily basis, so that approach isn't really what you're doing.

Very promising if true. Didn’t expect him to come in and demand any changes to be honest. Good on him.

Not negative I'm a realist and look at results how things pan out as I don't have a crystal ball

You always say things like "I will judge it when things happen" on posts like this but on posts which are not as positive, you'll say that it's what you've always been saying.

So it's just not true that you'll "wait and see".

You are sadly one of these people who are waiting for things to go wrong because I half think that's what you want.

You do contradict yourself quite a bit though.

You mentioned on one thread you have no expectations for the season. Two or three posts later you mentioned that we have to ‘piss the league’ otherwise it’s a failed season.

I've said from the day riza left hopefully we have an experienced manager I still haven't seen anything to change my mind I did say after bbm appointment he wasn't my choice but I'll back him and access after 15 games like how we play style wise where we are in the league formation how exciting the football actually is he's made big claims like I'm looking to get promoted and win the league so where have I been negative? Or am I as I say a realist and I will wait I hope he succeeds because that means as a city supporter I will have an exciting season totally positive

I'm surprised that Patrick Deboys is still there, I haven't heard anything good TBH plus I noted that he wasn't included on the new manager recruitment "sub committee".

So good news that BBM is ringing the changes here as recruitment has been a key weak spot for us.

Re: BBM has told Cardiff City to change transfer plans

I think this is a good thing it shows bbm has a set plan in his head about how he wants to set up and the players required to fit in to his set up

We've been trying to fit square pegs into round holes for years and look where it's got us

I'm also happy it seems the club are willing to allow bbm to get the players he wants as weve seen how well club signings have faired

I'm actually pretty optimistic for the season ahead and confident we will finish top 6 minimum

Last three League One winning managers were not experienced managers.

Maybe doesn't fit with the agenda you want but it's a fact.

Tan, Dalman and Choo you've interviewed him, you've given him the job and you've told him your expectations now let him get on with the job, he doesn't need your input regarding recruitment.
Previous years have proved that you three have stuck your noses in and controlled a lot of the signings that have come our way and a lot of them have been duds. Let BBM get on with it it's what he was given the job for so let him do it.

If only the Manager recruitment process had been quicker we probably could have had 2/3 players in already

We are always on the back foot and behind everyone else

Let’s hope we don’t piss about and are still be scratching around for players 3 weeks after the season has started

At least we do seem to have some sort of plan for the season which is an improvement I suppose

Re: BBM has told Cardiff City to change transfer plans

I doubt that BBM would've taken the job if he couldn't build a squad his way with his vision.

Re: BBM has told Cardiff City to change transfer plans

This is very positive on many layers.
One he has told the club/owner where they going wrong.
Two. The club seem to be listening, so this is a great step for them maybe they learning but they definitely giving freedom so maybe the dictatorship is softening, strengthen by the fact they are listen to a very inexperienced manager and trusting him.
Well done all round especially the hierarchy for doing some positive and llearning from the mistakes. Prehaps there’s still a chance.

At the moment it's all been about outs no hint of any coming in I hope he is not doing a riza agreeing with Mr Tan that we use what we got left with.

Monty, if he was just agreeing with Tan then he'd carry on with the initial process of bringing players in.

But he's told them they were trying to bring the wrong players in.

I see this as a big positive.

I will go along with what you say but don' t have a lot of faith left with things all going positive, perhaps it's been knocked out of me since warnock left and let's all be honest since then we have existed and that's about it the odd bigg win against Ipswich 2 goals in the last mins of injury time last season beating the jacks at home but very sparce moments but I want to be in the championdhip and want promotion this coming season .
