Wed Jun 25, 2025 3:52 pm

hasn't turned up for training. Looking for a move

Looks like he's going to Croatia.

I have to say I've not been impressed when I've seen him for the U21s.

That's a bit harsh, as he only played two games and scored one goal

I suppose it is a bit harsh.

Think he played a few more and scored a couple? But in terms of general play, I would say he was way off the level expected.

On the few occasions I saw him, he seemed to struggle to fit in.

As a striker though, if he was able to get a return of one goal every two games, it wouldn’t matter what his general play was like.

Roy Keane mentioned that Haaland was like a League Two player with everything apart from his finishing - but ultimately he is paid to score goals.

Simic must have something about him, he played in the champions league after all.

You say that but we had that with Ugbo and Kaba in recent years.

They were scoring goals (only at first in Ugbo's case) but fans complained they didn't do anything else.

Simic is clearly not going to start ahead of Salech, assuming Salech stays which I think he will. Because unlike Simic, I would assess Salech as a complete striker - can do a bit of everything.

Probably get a young loanee to support/deputise Salech.

Only two games, both in the U21 Premier Cup, a 2-1 win against Everton, and he scored one iof the goals, and the 1-1 draw against West Brom, which we lost on penalties 5-4, and in my opinion, he played ok, not way off level as you described it.

Fair enough. You watch more of them than I do so I'll accept I'm being overly harsh on this occasion.

They did complain, you are right, but you and I both know that certain people will moan and complain about literally anything.

Ultimately it’s about winning games, and without Kaba scoring the goals he did, we would have been relegated a lot sooner than we were.

If it was a choice between a striker who scores 15 to 20 goals in a season but does very little else, or a striker that does everything but fails to score a single goal, I know which I’d pick, each and every time.

This post obviously isn’t a Salech v Simic comparison - I agree that he won’t (and shouldn’t) start ahead of Salech.

Never given a chance with us tbh

Re: Simic

Wed Jun 25, 2025 6:42 pm

I’ve never seen him play, but from what I’ve heard he’s supposed to be a good goal scorer. There’s plenty of strikers out there that are brilliant goal scorers but don’t do much else. Doesn’t mean they are bad players. You look at Van Nistelrooy, very rarely see him running and closing everyone down or running at defenders with the ball. Every single goal he scored apart from 1 was in the box. A proper poacher. Maybe that’s Simics style. Not every striker needs to be a work horse.

He’s stayed at home and training whilst searching for a move; possibly a loan to NK Osijek in the Yugoslav First League

Simic in talks over exit

Roko Simic has not reported for pre-season duties at The Vale this week as he pursues a move away from the Welsh capital this summer.

The striker was signed last summer but is yet to feature for Cardiff, despite being named on the bench four times during Omer Riza's tenure as manager

I still think there was something very dodgy about this signing.

He’s 21 years old. RB Salzburg paid 4m for him when he was 18/19. He’s scored 8 goals in 20 for Croatia U21’s. I can see why we took a punt on him. He should be given a go for us in league 1. We would just have to accept that he won’t be sprinting around the place for 90mins. Hes a poacher from what I’ve read up on him.

The fact he hasn't returned for pre season and is forcing a move away kind of confirms some of the rumors from last season that it was more of an attitude problem than football ability that was the issue

Is this the fella we paid £2Million for?

I can't see that his value has gone up since joining us and going to Belgium and getting relegated??

Is it that he hasn’t turned up or has he been told that he doesn’t have to?

Haven’t seen anything regarding Tsunoda at training and wonder if it’s the same?

Tsuonda has been in a few of the training videos so he's definitely there

It's more the fact we spent a large amount of money on a striker then loaned him straight out, when we desperately need one. Something doesn't add up.

It’s not the first time that we have made decisions that are baffling.

Javi Guerra is another that comes to mind.

Banging goals in for Valladolid in La Liga - 3 games for us and never to be seen again.

We don't know if his absence has been agreed by the club.

He is a kid in a foreign land, finding it tough to integrate into a different football world. We are a strange club; he has seen four, maybe 5, managers in his short tenure.

Another shocker from Paddy Deboys......I hope BBM has him replaced

Ye that’s true. We did desperately need a striker around the same time so to buy him and loan him straight out was a bit odd.

If he hasn't returned and it hasn't been agreed by the club then dock every penny of his wages.

Remember Velikonja too? Never played a game and I think he was £1m.

There's paper talk about a loan back to Croatia, so I guess the club has suggested this is best for him. If he racks up goals, then a year older, we'll maybe get our money back.

Paddy Deboys is a blind man playing bingo, pure guesswork.

Ironic riza said he wasn't up to our standard it turned out riza was the one not up to any standard. he scores goals in two u21 I watched that he played he scored for a striker isn't that what you ment to do other than that not sure running around like a headless chicken is what peeps what from players

Re: ROKO SIMIC NOT AT TRAINING

Thu Jun 26, 2025 2:59 pm

Capology was suggesting that we were paying Simic £20k per week last season, and allowing for a 40% relegation clause would indicate his salary would be £12k per week this season.

Personally I would give that to Salech so to ensure he stays. Maybe even offer him a 3 year deal at £25k per week.

Re: ROKO SIMIC NOT AT TRAINING

Thu Jun 26, 2025 8:50 pm

Velikonja was an out and out goal scorer, a fox in the box if you will. He destroyed the development league but no Cardiff manager gave him a chance. 1 start and hauled off at half time, in a game of no meaning as we were already promoted.

Seems his career has followed that, when given a run he finds the net regularly looking at the stats, as a bit part player he has little impact.

Strikers have got to hit the ground running here or it seems the one thing fans and the board/management do have in common is zero patience to let a new player settle in. We seem to get on players backs the second they miss a chance
