I believe this is some sort of fitness gauge or measurement.
I am firmly in Team Rubin, but how the hell did he win the test? I struggle to do a gentle 5K nowadays so not scoffing, but surely not, he does look trimmer though.

I'm wondering the same...
Did Rubin win the bleep test because he's got fitter or he's fitter than we realise, or did he win it because the rest of the squad are totally unfit?

Good. Now he needs to show it on the field. Improve his work rate off the ball and he will be miles better. I don’t mean just jogging around half heartedly either. He needs to start making difference splitting runs and fully commit into tackles and closing down.

Couldn’t make out the levels they were getting.
Anyone know?

My guess is he's been told clearly that he doesn't stand a chance with this manager if he doesn't run.
So he's looking to make a good first impression.
Just hope he keeps it up and takes it into games.

Yesterdays' social media has the players predicting who'd win. Rubin got at least half the squad predicting him, with the next most predicted being Eli King, then Joel, then a few others scattered. Rubin said he came 2nd last season

Fair play, take back my comment then.
Rubin obviously good at these things, hopefully this time they can help improve his overall fitness going into the season.

I was gobsmacked when I watched it. He's clearly fitter than we are all aware of.
I bet if we put a poll up, he'd likely finish bottom if we all had to predict.

I seem to remember Beckham's bleep test score was 23 in his pomp which is insane.

Beep tests are tough as hell, I used to do them every pre-season.
I’ve no idea why people are surprised Rubin won it.
He’s a young, professional athlete.

I may be wrong but I think it proves one of 3 things imo -
1 He's got much fitter
2 - The other players' fitness levels have dropped
3 - He didn't put in as much effort last season as he was capable of

I've said a few times rubin is fitter than he looks, his numbers prove that he runs more than people realise maybe because his running style is laboured and makes it look like he's not busting his balls,
Go back and watch the villa game again there's 4 or 5 times he picks the ball up on the edge of our box sprints down field to the edge of the villa box they get possession and break fast and rubin intercepts the ball back on the edge of our own box
The problem is he needs to do it more consistently but definitely has the engine for an all out box to box midfielder

But that's always been the issue for him - consistency.
There are dozens of players in the EFL who can play well on the odd occasion but can't follow it up, right now he fits into that category of players who are nothing special.
I do think this is the manager to get the best out of him because of tactical knowledge, but it really is make or break for Rubin this season.
Could be the making of him if it goes well but if he struggles again, he'll probably stay in this league with another club - whether we go up or not.
Really want him to be successful so I hope he does the business this season.

The reason rubin frustrates me so much is because we know how good he could be, he has that little something a lot of players don't have the ability to do something special I.E Bristol City at home Southampton at home,
I sometimes wonder if he doesn't want it badly enough and just cruises through games
I totally agree with you that this season is make or break for him, if he fails to deliver it's time to conceed he's never gonna reach the potential some of us think he can

Rubin reminds me of horses that are bred to be sprinters/milers and are raced and raced at that distance, and they are low level. The horse gets sold to a smaller yard and the trainer thinks, bugger it, let's train him differently and try him at much further and they become a revelation at longer distances even though nothing suggests they should be.
This is Rubin. I think we all saw him as a top third of the pitch player, on the half turn. But as he has grown, he is not quick enough.
Every time he drops deeper and he has the game in front of him, he is miles better. We have just had managers too scared in case he does something stupid. This manager looks like he wants you to take risks, and boy, is Rubin that guy. Its funny his biggest fan outside our little world is Russell Martin (BBM's mate) who also wants you to get on the ball and take risks. If you mess up, we just have to score another goal.
I was going to say he takes Ralls' number, then remembered his number.

If Rubin is going to become a first team regular he is going to have to be an out and out box to box midfielder not an inconsistent no10 type luxury player
I think Bellamy has already hinted that’s the only way he’s getting in the Wales team

Whitts used to be the same would win the bleep test every year, covered way more ground than people realised. God I miss Whitts so much. True legend
But yeah Rubin covers way more grass than people think

I wouldn’t say he’s lazy or unfit, I’d say he is more “confused”. Can’t blame him for not knowing what the hell he should be doing on the field.
BBM will make it very clear what his role is, rather than “run around and do something”. He’s likely to be an 8, and with his talents, he could be a very good 8. Over time, he will likely be coached to understand some 6 duties but unlikely to be asked to do it unless it’s a worst-case scenario or actually does very well there in training.

It's was interesting in another media video a lot of the squad guessed that RC would win, I'd imagine becuase they know how fit he is. Could it also be a fan perception based on maybe his running style or he's tall for a CM that he then unfit.
If he stays this season there no doubt he needs to find consistency and maybe a new manager with a footballing philosophy will be a match for him.

More interested in who dropped out first.
They should name and shame.

Surely it depends on what score they got The first too drop still could have had an excellent result My guess that it would have been one of the keepers thou

Not saying they were rubbish. Footballers are notoriously competitive so no one would want to be out first.

Its usually more of a mental thing than endurance believe it or not. most have to hit a certain target, and then it becomes sprints to make each level, so some players naturally drop out due to muscle tightness (first thing back and sprinting isn't great on hamstrings) and then you get the odd few who push themselves mentally to be the winner.
It's also just to gauge how fit they are, watch for early injuries etc

Bottom line is he needs to score more goals and assist more. You can be the fittest, fastest and have the best skillset but if you don't have an impact in a game it means nothing.
