Now we've heard from him....

Wed Jun 18, 2025 10:01 pm

Are you happy with BBM leading us into next season?

I have to say that I am.

He wasn't my first choice but listening to him and reading up on him, he's arguably the best possible person for this squad.

Somebody (think it was Llan Bluebird but apologies if wrong) said it's the closest to Bellamy we could have got.

I agree with that and I'm genuinely excited for the first time in a very long time.

Keeping the poll simple, a straight yes or no.

I worry about the tippy tappy sidewards comments from Rochdale fans, but if we play a high press ala Citie, then that would definitely be a serious improvement on Riza and co.
If we say goodbye and thanks to Ralls, O’Dowda and Robinson etc and focus on our young guns, then I have high hopes for a decent season.

Yes

Voted Yes, as even though out of all those mentioned for the job he was the one I was hoping it wasnt going to be(mostly down to his inexperience as a head coach/manager) I can very much see the idea behind appointing him at this time and like many others have been conviced that it could work out a very good appointment.

With all the younger players around the age of 24 or under we have got, I think he can be extremely beneficial to this group and in a way I think his style might be what they need to succed for some of them.

He very clearly has his own philosphy, which will be a style akin to Peps but it will be his very much his own way of playing the game, which he has developed over the past 6 years at Rochdale and Man City respectively. Hopefully its a dominant style with aggresion like he has mentioned himself but its also a plan where everyone knows there roles and where they need to be at all given times, with the ball, without the ball, when to have intensity, when to conserve energy and in just how to be a real team in general.

Like Warnock always used to say 'we need everyone singing from the same hymn sheet' and he was right you can have all the different ideas, tactics, ways of playing etc... but none of that will matter if everyone isn't pulling in the same direction, knowing your jobs and fighting for eachother & the badge out on that pitch.

I get the feeling he will explain to all the players exactly what he needs from every single one of them and he will coach it into their brains every single training session, every game and I think before too long it becomes instinct. Thats when you see the success then in my opinion.

Hopefully now he gets the backing and also time he needs to succeed as head coach :thumbright:

Think you're right about him giving his blueprint to the players.

It'll be a shock to the players at first but as BBM says, repetition will get them there.

He's a head coach who will drum the style into them until they don't want to hear it anymore.

But that's good. Because the style then gets through to them.

It does not matter who the manager is after 10 games and we are not top with a team of under 25s and freebies within our younger ones this board and fans everywhere will be asking for him to be sacked even if the boardroom are interfering weekly and he's told to cost cut galore, he will just be the scapegoat like the past ones if the above does not happen. That's how stupid modern football fans thinking has become . Results that's it not the name of who's acting in that role as we have seen and Heard it all before at the club :bluescarf:

I gave him the benefit of doubt with a yes

how can anyone get excited when tan and his clowns are steering the ship, all i know is the poor fella and his staff are on the backfoot already, you have to feel sorry for anyone joining this damn club, but bloody good luck to them - they'll need it!

Re: Now we've heard from him....

C) Not sure yet.

I really couldn't care what a manager says in these early days press conferences. It means absolutely zero.

Performances, passion and points is my measure of the man. I'm certainly not upset with the appointment; but he has to earn my appreciation. He's done nothing yet.

Re: Now we've heard from him....

Thu Jun 19, 2025 8:56 am

He has said many good things but as with everything in football The talking will be done on the pitch and that is what counts and not what is said in a press conference
Give him time as remember he has inherited a squad that finished bottom of the championship showing a lack of fight and skill levels

Re: Now we've heard from him....

Thu Jun 19, 2025 10:04 am

I'm excited to see what he can do :ayatollah:

Re: Now we've heard from him....

Thu Jun 19, 2025 10:29 am

He may be a total failure, but he is prepared as best he can be; now it's the minerals.

I compare the Rochdale version to that of Morison, Hudson, & Riza. They had a vision of how they wanted to play but had no idea what to do when they met the first obstacle. Keeping Rochdale in L1 was a far better achievement than anything they did, so he must have had some talent for the role.

Three years of schooling under the best system in the UK must take you to another level.

I don't think we would have gambled on him if we were still in the championship, but L1 with a lot of movement out will be great for a system guy.

This is it for him, its shit or bust. He is 46, so failing here probably means it's back to coaching, succeed, and you get rich quickly just being in the championship merry-go-round.

I believe his work ethic and positivity will lift the club back to at least where we belong!!

Will answer the question after 15 games.

Re: Now we've heard from him....

Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:11 pm

I am optimistic because he is the first manager we've had in a long time who is clear about how he wants to play.

He also hasn't downplayed expectations, in fact he's built expectations up.

But saying these things and doing them are not the same thing, he will obviously be judged on results.

Think he needs a good first three games in August to set the tone.

You're right. Got off the fence and voted yes!

Yes although he wasn’t my first choice I’m more than happy with him.

There’s no guarantee with any manager but I believe he’s the best we could wish for.

Of course only time will tell but he’s got the City buzzing again.

I wonder what the Victor Meldrew of the forum voted? …. Hey we’re all entitled to our views! :laughing6:

Ha yes there a a few!
But there’s one in particular

Re: Now we've heard from him....

Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:38 pm

I want him to do well, but I’m finding it hard to be excited about this appointment. He got relegated with Rochdale, relegated with Leicester, and managed a youth set up. I know it’s Man City, but he got the best players, facilities, etc, there’s something wrong if you fail there. I hope I’m wrong, but this is going to turn nasty very quickly if we are not pushing for the promotion places.

Re: Now we've heard from him....

Thu Jun 19, 2025 4:57 pm

Have we got a team of under 25s and freebies?? Thought we had a good mix of experience and youth with a couple more additions to come along with departures... sounds about right for challenges of div 1.

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, then he has probably voted no!

We are the second favourites, just behind Luton. If we don't go up automatically, it will be a failure.

It's a tough gig, but that's why you get the big bucks; this squad is already much better than Wrexham's in this league.

Yeah, pleased with the appointment and pleased with his words.

But the words mean nothing if he doesn't back it up with results.

He's got a big six weeks to sort things out and then he will succeed or fail based on how things go on the pitch from August.

I voted no, but will support him, as who wouldn't be excited to get the Cardiff City job when your first dip in the water wasnt a successful one. That said, I dont blame him and wish him well.

Ned has a right to ask a perfectly good question, and am sure a lot of us have voted with our hearts as we have had so much of the enthusiasm, enjoyment and the ability to be a football fan kicked out of us.

I believe the bigger question is are we happy that Tan remains in total control of us and has the club in a stranglehold for yet another year and probably many more?

Thanks Jonny.

And in answer to your question - NO.

Happy with the appointment. However, with the current squad we have I don’t know how successful it will be straight away playing his style of football.

I feel like we need a good clear out and BBM given a window or 2 with some funds for this to work. If he is not backed then I don’t think there is much point in giving him the job with our current squad
