BBM talks about Rubin

Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:51 pm

BBM:

Rubin is a huge talent. Really, our job is to put him in a position to maximise his potential. He will have to compete with all the other players to show his potential.

Rubin is probably symbolic of the club. A lot of potential but it’s our job to unlock that. I’m sure once he sees it he will be really excited by it.

There are a lot of players in that position in this club.

Rubin is an enigma and splits the fans on their views of him.

I’m a big fan personally and hopefully the new manager can fulfil his obvious potential.

If he could finish he would remind me a bit of Bothroyd, but unfortunately his finishing is hit and miss.

Can score a great goal and then the next 20 shots barely make it to a goal kick. He’s scored a few daisy cutters for us, the goal is all that counts I guess but what I’m saying is the finish isn’t convincing.

Quick feet and can get out of a tight space, I’m still unsure if he’s slow or just looks it because of his size

Agreed fully, and in this league hopefully he smashes it! needs to add consistent goals to him game, confidence of having a having a great season will push him on, it’s now or never for him at City.

This really really is the last chance saloon for Rubin.

BBM is the manager to get the best out of him, he turned the likes of Cole Palmer into the player he is today.

Big season coming up for Rubin.

Hopefully the manager can find a role for him in his plans. Alot depends on BBMs preferred style and formations, and whether he can get the best out of Rubin in those set ups.

BBM prefers a 4-3-3 and I see rubin as a deep lying midfielder, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3 of rubin next to turnbull with Robertson just in front

BBM likes midfielders who are comfortable on the ball and can move through the transition phases quickly

Seems too unstable for me.

I think all three fit the 8 role in this system. You’d need one player there to operate as the 6, who can help in defence and also control & stabilise midfield, start to dictate the ball.

Unless one of them can be coached there, I could see this as a position we try to fill in the transfer market.

I think Robertson is a guaranteed starter. He knows BBM and what he has to do.

Rubin will have to run. If he doesn't, he won't have a chance with this manager.

i see a sitter and two CM's.

I don't think Chambers stays but if he does, Chambers as the sitter with Robertson and Rubin as CMs.

I don't think work rate is Rubin's issue; he is too big for the sprints in a forwards press, so looks lazy. Get him on the ball with options around him and he'll destroy teams

Yea I understand it may look a little unstable but I feel the best we looked in midfield for me was villa when rambo and rubin played the 6 and 8

rambo keeping the ball moving whilst rubin was picking the ball up off our centre backs and driving up field through the lines

I believe turnbull is good enough to play the quarter back role in league 1

Robertson should play the 10 he's more composed on the ball than rubin and sees the little passes that can provide for our forwards

Rubins strength is his ability to drive the ball through the lines before handing it over to a more intellectual footballer in Robertson, this is All just my opinion though

I think this could be a big season for Rubin his talent should shine at this level time for him to show what he can do

I think the prodigal son tag weighs far too heavy on Rubins shoulders. I got the impression there are no superstars in BBM's sqaud and that should suit Rubin.

He has either had shit defensive managers who publically don't trust and throw him on when we are losing or fantasists like Riza telling him to express himself.

Just have a role in the team and execute it well, and he'll be fine. He may even look like he is enjoying it

Lay off the bleach Colwill, concentrate on the football, and you can have a great season.

Not a great look, and makes it easier for opposition players to pick you out.

That’s one of my thoughts, if one player can be coached as a 6, otherwise it’s a Chambers or a new player.

I don’t see a 10 in this team.

What you will likely see is two 8’s in front of a 6.

Two 8’s gives you more fluid midfield and they can push forward, go out wide (switching with either wide forwards or fullbacks inverting).

A BBM team won’t be as rigid as Bulut’s or Riza’s teams, he’ll have them interchange and focus more on shapes. Which makes me very excited and I hope I see this later into preseason.

Agree and also for some of our younger players who should get their chances this season under BBM .
