" Alex Robertson "

Tue Jun 17, 2025 9:55 pm

Brian Barry-Murphy, who managed Alex Robertson at the Man City Elite Development Squad:

"Alex was probably sick of the sight of me by the time he left Man City, I was always on his case.

I think Alex is symbolic of what this club is about. We have the homegrown core of players which is exciting everybody, fans and staff alike.

We'll also combine that with the best talent we can get from elsewhere in the UK.

If you put that together and have a mix of players that's looking to improve together, to succeed and win - that's the type of mix I'm looking to create at Cardiff City."

I desperately want Alex Robertson to stay.

He is quality in my opinion.

Not only that but because he worked with BBM successfully, he will know what the manager expects him to do.

Could be a real leader in League One.

Robertson came with quite a reputation last season which for one reason or another including injury I don't think he quite lived up to.

I do agree however that a properly motivated and fully fit Robertson could be a major asset this season and having worked with BBM before and having proved himself as a quality performer at League 1 level with Portsmouth hopefully he'll be the asset we all hoped he'd be.

Motivation and fitness are the big challenges for me - let's hope he overcomes them and we have a gem on our hands.

Totally agree. He’s one of our most naturally gifted players in my opinion. You can see the class he has. If he had better players around him he would be even better.

Free kicks and corners shocking. I thought he was nothing special last season.

Playing in a confident, winning L1 team is a different proposition from coming to a split, unenthusiastic, pessimistic, struggling championship team.

He is 20, and for some reason, we expect players to be the finished article at 21 here. A lot of Harry Wilson talk yesterday, he is 28, at his peak.

There were moments last season, but I didn't see much that said he'd be a level above. It will be interesting to see him against his main competition in King and Joel Colwill. He'll have a massive advantage in understanding the system, and that will be very important.

He is going to get better; he will be getting better for another six or seven years.

I think we had no idea where to play him last season. He is an advanced midfielder, similar to Bryson in Warnock promotion, but he had three forwards in front of him; he isn't a "10" or second striker.

I think he definitely has potential but ffs keep him away from corners

Yeah, I agree with other comments. We didn't see the best of him and his set pieces were mostly poor.

He had his moments, like the performance against Plymouth and the brilliant goal at Coventry.

I think if he stays then he'll be a key player at this level. Has so much potential.

I once said on here that I believe he'd go on to be better than Rubin (although they're different types of player) and I stand by it.

I agree he could go further than rubin

I think him and turbull should start in midfield

I thought they worked well together until turnbull got injured and people forget that turbull is only 25 so he still has time to further develop

Wouldn’t say he was shit. You can see the quality he’s got. I think the team around him let him down big time.

Stats wise, he was our highest performing player. So to call him shite is not just unfair but wrong.

Clueless.

He was one of the very few bright sparks for me, let down by some very experienced pro's.

I imagine we'll get some interest. For me, he's key along with Salech.

Id love to see someone in the team who can protect him. Imagine Sio or Chambers, but far more effective!

I thought he started well and looked a top player,

unfortunately he then picked up that injury and I felt we rushed him back in a panic due to our league position

and I never felt he looked 100% fit from then on which obviously affected his performances

A fit and firing Alex Robertson with a full pre season behind him
Will be a huge player for us next season

Nice to see some enthusiasm on here. He’s the one player I’d keep above everyone and think BBM enhances the chances of him staying. Really think there’s a top, top player there
