Des Buckingham

Tue Jun 17, 2025 10:15 am

Seems to have lost out on both our job and the Plymouth job after being in the deep stages for both. I wonder why, as I'd have taken him over BBM, but then was slightly concerned of him going to Plymouth.

He's been available for a few months at this stage, also. Funny how no-one has snapped him up. Of course, it may be on his terms, but us and Plymouth are two of the better jobs below the Championship.

I just cannot see Cleverly doing well at Plymouth, for some reason.

It's an interesting one.

Like I said at the time, I believed he had been offered our job. That clearly wasn't the case and I maybe jumped the the gun a bit on that so apologise. Will definitely be more careful about what I say with rumours in the future.

But back to the question, I can only assume he isn't great at interviews, got the Oxford gig by default really. I think he's a decent manager so it's strange how he hasn't got a job.

On the flip side, people have said the club were blown away by BBM's interviews. Can see why after seeing his interview for the club TV.

Buckingham was my first choice but now very happy with BBM, especially the more I hear about him.

I would imagine that Buckingham would probably have specific things in mind if he was to take a job - probably guarantees on transfer funds, certain salaries etc that maybe Plymouth and ourselves wouldn’t guarantee or meet.

Does seem strange however, as he is a good manager.

Ned, Buckingham was close to signing but I’m told the individual who created the Rambo issue was at it again (and I know you know what I mean) :ayatollah:

Sven, that would be the freeloader Ken Choo, i'm led to believe that after he f**ked things up Dalman, (who was away on pre-arranged family business) had to step in and recover a total mess that Choo had created.

Choo's useless, is he? :laughing6:

What is it with this Des Buckingham love in? He has a very ordinary record to say the least. Yes he took Oxford up via the play off but when he took over in November 2023 they were second in the league, so he obviously inherited a good side. But under him they finished 15 points behind second place. Prior to that his only club management experience was in India!
