VINCENT TAN:
Tan Sri Vincent Tan said: “I’d like to welcome Brian to Cardiff City Football Club. We are delighted that he has agreed to become Head Coach.
“Throughout the interview process, Brian showed a huge passion for our Club because he believes in what we're trying to do. He knows this level having played and managed at this standard before, where he was noted for his style of play. Since then, he has only gone from strength-to-strength as a leader.
“He's got a proven track record in youth development having coached some of the brightest young prospects in the UK, many of whom are now playing at the very top of the game.
“He brings enthusiasm, vibrancy and an exciting outlook on what today’s football is, while looking to play an attacking style that our fans are sure to enjoy.
“It's a combination of all of Brian’s great talents that make him the right man to take us forward into this next chapter.”

Welcome Brian.
I wish you well, and hope Tan leaves you to do it your way, please be your own man not a yes man.
Barry-Murphy’s barmy army

BBMs barmy army
What do you reckon?

Just put a thread up that I'm pleasantly surprised Tan has given him a three year contract.
Tan has his self-imposed rules of not giving managers more than a two year deal.
Pleased he's broken those rules for BBM.

Ned,
I am not enthusiastic at all and am worried.
1. Tan chose him and has a Disastrous history on Managers
2. For me he has not got a good CV in this Division, Awful in fact.
BUT I WILL FULLY BACK HIM:
After all the pre season and 12 games in League 1 we will know where we are going
Bluebirds

We disagree on this one Annis.
I'm cautiously optimistic.
He will bring a style that takes us into the 21st century. Got a proven record of improving young players and we have some quality ones coming through.
Knows the game inside out too.
I'm very pleased.
But of course it's a results business and his job is to get top six at the absolute minimum.

I’m optimistic.
Regardless of what is said about his time at Rochdale, I fully believe he did an ok job and was destined to get relegated due to their financial woes.
This could be what we needed all along to get the best out of our younger players, play more attractive football, and build for the future.

I hope it's not one of Tans B&M bargains..

Time to all pull in the same direction now lads. Get behind him and the team. Exciting few weeks ahead

Ned your last sentence there questions your logic here.
With what we have I bet Warnock would struggle to deliver that. We at least need an experience manager to achieve that not a coach that has mainly worked with the youth.
For me I’m like Annis and I judge how a season is going after 10/12 games. I’m making an exception this season and I’m removing the 10/12 game rule as I think this BBM is going to be given a big chance to bring our youth through hence the 3 year contract. I just feel Tan is willing to wait the 3 years providing the youth policy works.
3 more years of Tan…….shit.

I agree with Annis

We as a club have been living in the dark ages, and I'm afraid Warnock is part of that.
You get success now by dominating possession and/or high intensity pressing.
The Warnock way doesn't work anymore, all the stats back that up. Of course there are exceptions, like Nathan Jones going up with Charlton with their dour football.
This feels like the right sort of appointment to make us a modern team - but of course results have to come with that.

Also in camp Annis.
My opinion based after reading some of the horror stories from the Rochdale forums.
Expect tippy tappy sideways.
Coaching the finest youth players in the land can’t be difficult.
Coaching the country’s worst and turning them into something is.
I sincerely hope he succeeds but looks like another cheap option.

BBM had an interview published in the new York Times a few months ago where he admitted he got a lot wrong in his time at Rochdale but also learnt a hell of a lot
He admitted that he was to focused on possession based football and that over time he has learnt there is many different ways to win a football match
He seems a genuine guy who is happy to admit when he is wrong shoulders the blame and learns from his mistakes
The BBM who managed Rochdale 4 years ago is a far different version from the one who will be managing us
I could see riza was gonna be a car crash and called our relegation early on
This time I'm far more optimistic and honestly think we will be there or thereabouts come next may

I have never understood how a guy can do his coaching badges and then think he is qualified to coach a system that for all his career, has been alien to him.
Morison was a championship bruiser of a centre forward, all elbows, aggression, and personified direct football. Then he rocks up at the city, and we are a possession-based team. Possession for possession's sake playing a "progressive game". He doesn't see the patterns in Peps or Bellemys' head, what they are trying to do or the adjustments to counter the opposition.
BBM has been in the inner sanctum for three seasons and played at this level so it will be interesting where we go. I don't think he'll be a purist. Kompany slightly deviated from Pepball, it's more attacking, then Bellemy has gone one stage further, so I don't expect a Pep tribute band.
The jury will be out on him, he is getting on for his first "big job", so I am expecting a work/footballaholic who can't & won't fail, and boy do we need that.
5 of us renewed yesterday, so excited

Not convinced buy this appointment seems another gamble but let's now just get on with it bored the shit out of me all this has .
So move on at least we have a manager and he has to be given a chance to succeed.
Gonna take time

How long ago was that 4yrs or so?
Do you think he may have changed or is he entrenched in tippy tappy football as it's called! All the evidence since Rochdale do not point to such a style being played by him now?

I completely agree with this, if any light can come from relegation it must be the opportunity to move our game forward and this is hopefully the kind of appointment that can do that. I’m sick of watching other teams play decent football and watch us play something from a bygone era.. football has changed and we have been left playing catch up thanks to short term planning and some managers who were well past their use-by date

Horror stories are Cardiff City teams defending for 70% of the game.
Imagine spending money on tickets every season to watch dreadful football which we have been displaying.

It has taken forever and i have never so under whelmed with the appointment. Defo shopping at the bottom end of the table.
I hope he is not another manager out by Xmas.
Please prove me wrong!

Spot on.
I notice the majority of the neutrals are saying this looks a good important.
That's including Ali Maxwell from NTT20 (big fan of that podcast):

To anybody that can be arsed to read will know his budget at Rochdale was a bag of beans. Getting a coaching job at one of the best academies in the land takes some doing. Having an informed opinion is hard as well.

Hopefully BBM’s head coach title might mean we are looking for a director of football as well and maybe that person can help identify that we have severely lacked pace in our team for far too long!
Mon Jun 16, 2025 9:44 pm
I am actually happy with this to be fair! But (head coach) that means hes just in charge of on field and not transfers? Not sure thats a good thing, i am looking forward to his play style because let's face it we havent seen nothing decent on the pitch for years

With you on this one, Annis, although he talks the talk, the jury is out for now, but he has my blessing too.

What's a contract for?
It's just a compensation decision for whoever breaks it first. If it's him (when was the last time that happened), we may get a few pounds, but it's usually us at around Christmas, and it will cost us a lot more if it goes the way it usually does with inexperienced Managers.
I think it's a long contract because we took seven weeks to fail on a few, and we needed a Manager and were in a weak negotiating position.
Still I wish him all the best and hope he can prove me and the many doubters wrong.
Mon Jun 16, 2025 10:09 pm
Might be a very small thing, but I really hope the players continue with what Ramsey started where they stood in front of the canton before the Oxford game
Really want a high level of connection between fans and players this season
