Relegation Under Russell Slade ?

Sun Jun 15, 2025 7:00 am

I doubt we would have been relegated last season had Slade beenbat the helm .He definitely steadied the ship after Ole's departure and achieved two mid-table finishes whilst being straddled with debt whilst moving out many over paid under achieving players .

Slade had a worse squad of players than last season.

In fact Warnock & Mcarthy would have made a better fist of last season.

I do wonder if the club wanted to go down to enable or trigger a refresh to take place ?

I agree on Slade. Slade has been unfairly judged. Not my favourite manager. He did better than mid table second season as he took us to within one game of the play offs.

Warnock would have had got this side pushing for a play off place

I doubt they wanted us to go down.

The loss of revenue alone is a reason.

I do agree with Slade - he had a rough time of it from fans (not surprising) but he did a very good job with what he had at his disposal.

His job was to off board the over paid players who weren’t good enough and to steady the ship, which he did.

Relegation is tans fault , by employing riza he missed an opportunity at the time of getting a decent manager in , rizacwas well out of his depth .

Noooooooo. Man for man, immensely more talented. Not one of last season's teams reaches the bench.

Think one of Slades gifts were spotting something of players others missed . Anthony Pilkington is one ..

Slade was ridiculed from day one, sadly in life you havebto fashionable not an ex PE Teacher , what did that matter who cares .

True Wez, Riza should never have been given the job by Tan but after making the mistake he had numerous chances to sack him, christmas, easter or after that 7-0 shambles at Leeds. To leave it until there were only three games left was unbelievable, i class Riza along with Allan Durban as one of our worse EVER manager.

The fact so many Ex players speak so highly of slade even unprompted should speak volumes about the man. Someone time has judged extremely well but perhaps not appreciated AT the time. Steady ship. Solid if uninspiring. What we would have loved to have that last year.

I spoke to Slade halfway through last season and he said he could keep that team up. He did say that he thought he we had a soft team with no fight. I agreed with him.

I hated Slade at the time. He was the face of cost cutting, even though that very obviously wasn't his decision.

But hindsight is a great thing and you have to commend him for the job he did.

I've no doubt he would have kept them up. If nothing else he would have stripped back to basics and organised them. Derby weren't a better football side than us. They were a together team who battled and fought till their last breath to stay up. If we had that spirit we would have been fine

Keeper .... Marshy
RB ......Peltier NG is a btec version
CB....Morison, Manga, Turner & Conolly all better
LB Fabio/Dec John ....We play a winger there

CM 23 year old Ralls better than 31 year old
CM Gunnar.......not comparing
CM - Whitts ------- not comparing

LW Pilkington better than Ashford or Davies
RW Nooney better than above

Salech / CR better than Slades Zohore

So somehow our current strikers are better than that team, but what a defence and midfeild

RW

Agree with everything you say there apart from LB.

I loved Fabio because he was a great character, was there with about 50 others at Boro on a Tuesday night when he scored which was a great moment.

But he was a dreadful defender. His red card at Sunderland pretty much sealed our relegation.

O'Dowda the better LB I'd say.
