Cardiff City fans: why is it that Aaron Ramsey (just 30 Cham

Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:21 pm

Cardiff City fans: why is it that Aaron Ramsey (just 30 Championship starts during three separate spells with the club) gets a paragraph dedicated to him on the official website today thanking him for his services and wishing him well in the future,
whereas Dimitrious Goutas (79 Championship starts in two seasons) is mentioned merely as an afterthought and gets no thanks at all?

The money Ramsey has taken outta the club last 2 yrs he could have played this year for nothing

I agree Annis.

I like Ramsey, he's a decent person. But he barely played for us and he cost us an awful lot of money.

Goutas played a lot of games and performed very well, especially when Bulut was around.

We will miss Goutas more than we will miss Ramsey.

Ramsey was a rising star developed from our youth set up and he went on to great things for club (Arsenal) and country (Wales), so I think he always had us Bluebirds following his career. For him to come ‘home’ was a ‘dream’ for all concerned but :bluescarf: :ayatollah: sadly, it was one that failed due mainly to injuries

Goutas arrived with Erol Bulut and was a stalwart of the team until Bulut left; at which point I feel he became (understandably) frustrated and maybe ‘homesick’, his form dipped and he was eventually left out of the starting XI and ultimately the squad

I wish both players all the very best I their future careers but I feel we will still follow Rambo’s adventures no matter where it leads. After all, he’s a Bluebird at heart!

Ask 100 Cardiff fans to list their favourite players and I’d be amazed if you had less than 99 of them putting Rambo ahead of Goutas. Add on the fact he’s an academy boy and one of Wales’ best players ever it’s hardly a surprise the club feel he deserves a longer send off.

A lot of people were hoping he’d be announced as our manager, not a single person was calling for Jack Wilshere to be given the job despite him and Ramsey having very similar footballing careers and managerial/coaching experience.

Football fans are odd. Pilkington and Patterson played almost the same number of games and scored almost the same number of goals (111/23 and 106/21 for comparison) yet I think Patterson is held in much higher regard and is seen as almost a cult hero.

Maybe because Aaron was here as a teenager - Was sold to save this Club and the Ridderler still got that deal wrong .
Came back to the Club on loan and we did not lose a game when he played - then back here of late .
Might not have worked out of late - But you learn from History ;)
