DAMMING Dimitris Goutas' interview

Thu Jun 12, 2025 5:25 pm

"Such are the paces, such are the demands, such is the competition, that once it gets you down, its hard to turn around, hard to get away.

No matter what youre chasing.

Thats how we went about trying to get there last year losing points at the end and risking it for no reason."

"And that's how we finally got it this year.

What was the problem? Maybe we were too relaxed.

And not just us on the field.

Everyone around the team, even the fans. No pressure, no disapproval."

You see, in the game where we were relegated and mathematically, I expected that when I left, things would be very difficult.

But there were 100 people and they were waiting patiently, kindly, for autographs.

"We fell and yet we had a sponsored night to recognize the best player of the season. The whole atmosphere had nothing to do with Greece or even Turkey."

"Here (Greece), you know. Chaos, swearing, not being able to go out on the street.

There, a completely different environment.

It might have only been like that in our group. Am not sure."

"In general, the way everyone was treated and approached, didn't make you feel like "wake up, we're going down".

I don't know if we would have stayed in the division if I had stayed in the team.

I think it was a cycle that closed anyway."

About Sio

"He was a huge help when I was in Cardiff.

He has a way of decompressing those around him, of making them relax.

And I told him that when he left. I would collapse without him being here."

"And I collapsed. I didn't have a person to shout to, to have fun with, to vent to.

It was a big deal for me.

And yes, he keeps telling me that it's time to come back."

Had a feeling it would go this way, which is a massive shame.

He’s right in what he’s saying regarding the reaction.
A big part of it I believe is Tan has sucked the soul out of us, literally..

He’s right. Cardiff fans these days just seem to accept mediocrity. Theres no fight, passion or soul left in the club. My view is to vote with your feet, but I know I’m in the minority with that view. Sad times.

Can't argue with any of that.

He's right about the fans too.

He’s right, we are a bunch of push overs.

The rebranding killed us.

All we do is accept what tan has done and is doing to us.

At least you can say “I support Cardiff not the owners”

I think most fans have given up.

I go (buying tomorrow) because that's what i do, but the passion, identity has passed by.

I don't buy into the owner, leadership team, or manager since Lamouchi/Sol.

Not sure what gets it back.

Weirdly enough, I'm more excited than I was a year ago.

I think with the young quality we have coming through there is something to get excited about. Especially if it works with BBM.

I always felt we were always one season away from relegation in the Championship because of the mis management. But I think there is potential for us to have a good season at the lower level.

Not talking about results necessarily but more pride in the team.

I think that would bring back a bit of passion. We haven't had anything to shout about since PL relegation.

Of course I could be wildly wrong again and this could change by the end of September

One thing that won't change though is the relationship between the fans and the owner - that will never be repaired and rightly so.

Not disagreeing with most of what he says but the atmosphere in the Canton at the end of the Stoke game was toxic with many fans telling the players to "Foxtrot Oscar" amongst other things.

I seem to remember the players being booed off at a few games. I also remember some decent games with atmosphere there.
But also. They’re professional players. If they can’t wind themselves up to go out and win, no one will.
As Roy Keane said in an interview he didn’t need to be playing xyz club or being geed up by a manager to go on the pitch with the right mentality. It’s down to the players.

Saying that. Sad to see Dimi go as he had some great games. Maybe his little mate leaving was too much for him.

Wish him well in whatever he does. :occasion5:
We move on. Hopefully!

Even Dimi in his parting interview is shocking how many passive sections of our fan base were. No passion, easy to please, happy to settle for crap, honestly, I don’t know our fan base any more, it really sickens me.

Gutted he's gone, thanks for everything Dimi, gutted to lose him and Sio when left in January

Apathy rules.

The club I fell in love with - early Eighties - had a crumbling ground, a series of dreadful teams, dreary opposition with low followings and barely any success.

But it had heart. A huge heart with spirit that the fans bought into. We were totally united - us versus everyone else - and you felt included. You were in the club.

Now we're just passive people passing through it. No spirit, no passion. And Dimi is right - most of us barely care enough to be bothered. Guilty as charged.

Fans are to afraid to boo the team these days incase it upsets the players even if they have been absolute dros.
In my book if your not putting a shift in and getting humiliated like we where at Rotherham last game of season year before last in my book we should let the team know in no uncertain terms we have been to soft as fans some are frightened to protest incase it upsets the players.

"I don't know if we would have stayed in the division if I had stayed in the team".

:laughing6:

How big headed can you get? Did really well for most of his first season but towards the end of that season and virtually all of last season he was a mistake waiting to happen almost every game.

Seemed to lose all interest as soon as his pint sized buddy left the club so no great loss for me. Still love his goal against the JBs last season though.

His is totally right of course and this is British culture at present. We all need to be criticised from time to time makes us think and be stronger not allowed in British culture and football is the same .It's an odd country and he is spot on i said the same thing .They got relegated and went to an award ceremony that night would never of happened 20 years ago .imagine warnock putting up with that no chance .

Sadly the game in Britain has gone backwards in so many ways. Clubs in Europe have fans with much more passion and I enjoy going to these games more than city.

I will say the passion for me personally has never been the same since the rebrand. I lost the unconditional love I had for city and don't have the same fight, desire s I once did...

Dimi comments are spot on. Best wishes to him

The Return - whoever you are - great post and unfortunately we’re all to blame for the apathy more or less.

A few boos at the end of the game hardly cuts it!

The fact that employees of the club hand out bans for supporters “over celebrating “ and stewards insisting on looking under your hat in December may have something to do with the passive fan base

You only had to watch the games to see what Dimi said is true.
Loads of talk around the club about winning games and staying up but no heart or aggression.
Good luck Dimi ….atleast you have been honest ….that’s appreciated

This is my first post on here, I do keep an eye on here for news etc. I have to say of all the years I had followed Cardiff that was in tough times we always stuck together and fought adversity akin to the times of when kumar was in charge.

To hear a player like Dimi come out with that is damming, we are a very fractured club. I'm been living away from Strangetown for over 20 years and it shocks me in the change in the club. I went to a game at the CCS I took my young nephew he fell asleep! The atmosphere non existent. I feel sorry for poor Johnny at least he is trying it's sad to see him getting shot down. Let's hope BBM can maybe unite us again.
