Barry-Murphy: Learn About the Man

Before we make judgement decisions and comparing to Riza, take a good read through this:

Very interesting and high praise, certainly could be someone who will surprise us and really work wonders with our younger squad.

Who do you want us to realistically appoint?

Yes it did.

He miraculously kept them up for two seasons with an awful squad. Before they went down at the end of his time there.

But he left there with lots of plaudits.

But don't let the details get in the way....

So you're saying he kept Rochdale up for two seasons, but got relegated on his third season, meaning he progressively made them worse, failing to didn't build and improve their squad. Brilliant.

Who do you want us to realistically appoint?

Dave Challiner
Des Buckingham
Ian Evatt
Richie Wellens

All proven managers at this level. We could have even brought Warnock back for one last crack at a record ninth promotion, just to get us back into the Championship.

I will 100% support Barry-Murphy if he's confirmed, but this is yet another unnecessary gamble. I hope he proves me wrong.

You might want to look back at that Rochdale team.

They were in a complete mess. It was a miracle he kept them up for two seasons.

But I guess some people have been desperate all along to criticise the appointment whoever it is.

I take the view that we should give managers a chance.

Some good names there.

It’s no secret that Buckingham was my first choice.

With the youth having more of an impact this season (I would assume anyway) it could be a very shrewd appointment.

Rubin gets a lot of (deserved) criticism on here and I can’t help but think that BBM could get the best out of him, with a more flowing, attacking style of football.

Time will tell but I’m hoping that he gets us playing enjoyable, exciting football and brings the youngsters into the team.

Before Warnock joined us, he took over a huge mess at bottom of the Championship Rotherham. He took them on a long winning run and saved them from relegation. That's a good manager.

I would have been happy enough with the names I listed above and I think this appointment is yet another huge, unnecessary gamble.

Like I said, I will 100% support Barry-Murphy if he's confirmed and I hope he proves me wrong.

That's a good point and he may be able to unlock some of the potential in our youngsters. This does seem more of an appointment for bringing our youngsters through with a change to a more attractive playing style. I won't be complaining at all with that, as long as the results come with it.

I've listed managers who I think could give us an instant return to the Championship. Barry-Murphy seems more of a long term appointment with a future plan. I won't be expecting an instant promotion now, I think we will have to wait a few seasons to see if he can put something special together.
