BBM - Interesting

Wed Jun 11, 2025 8:58 pm

Plymouth fans don't sound happy that it looks like Brian Barry-Murphy is coming to us.

He was also second on the poll on their forum for the preferred person to take over.

Obviously this is subject to an announcement, but I'm cautiously optimistic this could be a great appointment for us.

Not just because of the Plymouth comments but when you actually read up on BBM, there are very positive things there.

Hopefully he gets confirmed this week.

As I commented on the other thread:

I’m starting to get on board the more I dig into it.

Great football, tactician, learning from Pep and has plenty of coaching experience.

Different from Riza, will try and attack the game and get us playing.

Has manager experience, even though it was just Rochdale, but that was a tough job and had nothing to spend, but additionally was praised to how good they were playing - with hardly a squad to boast about.

So I don’t think this is another Riza. But I still have concerns over backroom staff and our ability to recruit players that match the manager’s philosophy and style.

The fact that the club's statement today said "management team" makes me think that they may allow him to bring in coaches with him - I hope that's the case.

But in terms of the man himself, I'm cautiously optimistic.

I was never in favour of this appointment, but I can see the logic. It looks like we have a decent crop of youngsters who need an energetic, modern coach. We couldn't have a neanderthal lower EFL manager, going long and winning the second ball with little thought, just blood and guts.

Scrolling back through the Rochdale forum to when bbm was in charge the consensus was he would never sit on a lead and always went for more goals, sometimes it worked sometimes not but must of been exciting

Here's a run of results during his tenure, definitely not boring lol

Not my choice I wanted an experienced manager not another youth manager very similar to riza and that was a disaster

Don’t think it’s fair to compare him with Riza.

Nobody was keeping Rochdale up, even the fans were impressed by him.

The appointment makes sense but they need to let him have the coaches he needs and the players recruited suit his football.

Shows how far we've fallen that we're fighting with bloody Plymouth for a manager!

I'd laugh if it wasn't all so depressing.

Yes a Rochdale Manager who was relegated, and has done a bit of coaching.

Re: BBM - Interesting

BBM seems like a good guy on and off the pitch. He must have something about him to get the Man City gig.

I think he could be similar to Bulut and Riza in that he'll like his possession and passing stats and count. He'll potentially be different though by being more gunho. Reckon we'll score more goals under him for sure.

My concern is, will he just be another manager, like so many we've had recently, that is more concerned with playing to a certain mantra over trying to actually win a game of football.

I defo don't wanna go back to Warnock hoofball...but if we gotta go direct mid game to beat a certain opposition...bloody do it and get the 3 points.

A bit of coaching at one of the best teams in the world, working and learning from one of the best managers in the world.

Bringing through some of the best young players.

But don’t worry about that, only focus on Rochdale.

Any appointment is going to be a gamble but he has experience of playing and managing at this level .You don’t get to be working under Pep if you aren’t a talented coach .The lessons and experience he would have learnt from him is invaluable so mixed with his knowledge of the lower leagues could be a very shrewd appointment

Frank you are correct.

Would he have been my first choice? No.

Did I know much about him before he was linked with us? I’ll be honest, I didn’t.

But I’ve spent some time reading and learning more about him.

He definitely has something about him and you don’t (as you said) get to work under Pep unless you have the potential there to start with.

The way some of our fans go on, it is as though we are a team full of superstars and we have won the UCL five years in the last 6.

Exactly my thinking.

Not my choice either but it’s the usual thing on here writing someone off straight away.

I wonder how many of Man City's u23's we could loan next season. He wasn't my first choice but I'm not gonna cry about it. Seems to me too many people are falling over themselves to find fault with this appointment.

Exactly.

Yes things are not so good at our club but many just happy to moan about everything.

If it happens let’s at least give the guy some support and a fighting chance.

Spot on.

Also not true when people said nobody else wanted him. It's public knowledge that Plymouth wanted him too.

I'm pleased with this appointment and he will have my full support, same goes for most fans I'm sure.

If people actually read up on him they'll see he is highly rated.

They released Tai Sodjie this month. Wonder if he goes and gets someone like that. Good goalscoring record and looked to be coming through until an injury ravaged season this year
