Exclusive: Charlton boss Nathan Jones set to land new deal
Addicks chief had been number one managerial target for Cardiff City

Nathan Jones is expected to sign a new long-term contract at Charlton Athletic.

The Welshman, who turned 52 at the end of last month, had attracted the interest of Cardiff City.

But this site reported earlier this week that Jones was going to be staying with the Addicks.

Always played unattractive football .. failed at Stoke and Southampton..
yes he runs around like a nutter on the touchline, fist pumping.. but cmon really??
So so happy he is not coming here… mind you his agent earned his ‘commission’

We move on then, so cardiff must of approached him as said on here and Charlton upped his money .

5 years???

What on earth are Charlton doing..3 year contract absolute maximum for any Manager these days. Good work by Jones to get that deal in fairness

Don't blame him either, he is better off at Charlton, why would he give up a good job with the proper football people around him to come to a laughing stock of a club with no football knowledge helping him at all, and joining the circus where the owner is constantly interfering.

His agent has played an absolute blinder, used all the Cardiff noise to land his client an outrageous contract by championships standards,

it's highly likely Charlton will struggle and Jones will end up with a huge payout just in time for Christmas

The way the Charlton fans have reacted to the news and the abuse they've thrown our way I will enjoy swapping places with them next may

Probably got what he wanted with all the speculation linking him to us - but a big gamble by Charlton, giving him five years on good money.

I've made no secret that he wouldn't be my choice so not too disappointed by this.

It'll likely have a pimped up release clause that could kill the 5 year deal in a single cash transaction.

5 years at one club just doesnt happen anymore. Specifically in the championship. You either:

A) Underperform/dont last the season
B) Overperform and get promoted/then get sacked for being in the bottom 3
C) Overperform and replace B) above with an impossible relegation battle... which ends up with the sack.

Can't blame him staying with a club in progression, rather than consider a move to a club in decline!

I'm glad we were able to obtain a better deal for him than he already had! Hope they crash and burn next season. I always wanted Buckingham - but it looks like we are about to gamble on Ramsey.

He was really wanted here but it was a farce regarding how it fell apart. In fairness to Charlton, they wanted to keep him and their response was ultimately better (by some distance) than ours

Makes you wonder what would’ve happened if it was the other way around. If we had a manager and Charlton came in for them, would the board stand strong to their demands or would they fold at the first sign of some cash.
