Football snobbery Ryan Mason Vs Dave Challinor

Tue Jun 03, 2025 8:56 am

I see Ryan Mason is the new Head Coach of WBA. I thought Dave Challinor was mentioned and felt he deserved his chance at a big club. He started at the bottom, won nearly everywhere he has been, and plays decent football for the leagues he is in.

Ryan Mason has steered the supertanker that is Spurs 13 times, with a good win ratio, but consider the players he had during that time. He has been in the coaching and managing system for a long time, so he has served an apprenticeship.

Is there snobbery in football? Is it more important to be attached to a superclub system than actually starting off in portacabins and winning stuff over multiple seasons?

I'd love Challinor's name to have been mentioned with us, but thought he'd get a chance in the championship.

If we stayed up would you have prefered Challinor or Mason?

Challinor every day for me, he may find the championship a step to far, but its even a bigger leap of faith IMO that Mason is a championship head coach.

I totally agree with you.

If we were a Championship club, I'd choose Challinor over Mason every day of the week.

If nobody else is in for challinor we must take advantage now.

There is absolutely no reason why we can't get Challiner and I'm totally bemused why others think he's an unrealistic option.

Alright, I'll bite.

- He has a good deal at Stockport. Has a big say over transfers

- Has a connection to the club and it's fans

- His stock is high so unlikely to move to another League One club

- Knows what he's getting from the Stockport owner, wouldn't be the same with us

Very very unlikely he'd give that all up just to go to another League One club - for that is what we are.

If he's so available then why aren't Plymouth after him?
