PSG win the Champions League

Sat May 31, 2025 8:50 pm

Paris Saint Germain have won the Champions League for the first time in their history.

They beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich. That is the biggest margin of victory in a final that the competition has ever had.

They become the 24th different club to win the competition.

There will be some party in Paris tonight.

Hell of a team they have right now.

The youngsters really showed what they can do today, and people say RC needs time, if you're good enough you're old enough.

Important to remember that PSG were one of the only top clubs who refused to get involved with the Super League and their owner publicly criticised it.

That's partly the reason I'm pleased for them tonight.

Brilliant team too.

Inter looked leggy and out of ideas, they made PSG look good. Fir context, I think PSG came 15th in the group stage of the newly implemented format.

League Phase position doesn't really matter as long as you get through to the knockouts (although with an extra tie if you're 9th to 24th), like the Euros and World Cup.

Villa and Lille were in the top eight but were never going to win the competition.

Nobody remembers how Spain did in the group stage last summer but they remember the knockout games and they're European champions.

The best teams win league formats, that's not always the case with knockout cup competitions.

It's like a totally different sport to what we watch week in week out.

But with the new Champions League format they don't all play the same teams so that idea is negated as far as this competition is concerned.

Plus, Liverpool who topped the league standings were easily second best to PSG over the two legs and should have been beaten by a cricket score in Paris were it not for Alisson's goalkeeping performance of a lifetime.

Anything that takes the game away from Pep ball is great for me, but what a style of play, just running hard towards the goal rather than passing back and sideways.
