Vincent Tan : “ New Manager “

Fri May 23, 2025 10:22 am

The paid Agents tasked with whittling down a long list of candidates presented the board with around half a dozen suitors for the job.

Interviews with those candidates took place this week and now a recommendation has been given to Cardiff's owner Vincent Tan who himself will decide the Final Decision of who is Cardiff’s next Manager.

The group will put around three names forward to Tan, who will make his decision over the coming days before Cardiff's League

Those involved in the recruitment and the sub-committee have waxed lyrical about how this process has gone. Mark Allen and Gavin Chesterfield led the task force with support from global sports agency Wasserman, who helped to provide information and the background data to help shape the recruitment process.

The club are still confident of making an appointment before the end of the month, which is next week, with the decision now with Tan, who will pour over the board's recommendations before green-lighting the appointment.

I can see it now:

“Cardiff City are very pleased to announce the new manager after a gruelling process was finally completed. Mark Allen and Gavin Chesterfield, along with sports agency Wasserman had provided a list of three candidates to Vincent Tan, who rigorously looked through all of the data provided in the search for Cardiff City’s next manager.

With that, we are happy to announce that Darren Purse as our next manager “

So they've given three names to Tan for him to choose from.

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if he says they're all too expensive and he tells them to find someone else.

Pretty easy to pick managers with no jobs ffs, any of us could have done that, not quite sure why an academy manager would be involved in the process but lets see what happens :bluebird:

Annis, like you (and most city fans) i would have no faith in Tan picking a decent manager because he knows piss all about football, but hopefully the 3 on the list are all acceptable candidates so that Tan at least picks one of them.

Well said. However, the fact clueless Emperor Tan is anywhere near the final decision is absolutely insane.

Annis, your title is missing the word "the" between the words "Tan" and "new" ;)

What p*sses me off (and it has to change for us to move forward) is the three names given to Tan to decide will mean nothing to him, he wont have a clue who they are. Maybe he'll have a game of Rock, Scissors, Paper to decide who's next in.

You dont think that Dalman will not recommend the one he thinks is the best?

In fairness, it wouldn't just be three names that are sent to him.

It'll be a list for each of the three:

Pros/cons
Interview tapes
Salary expectations
Length of contract wanted
Recruitment ideas
Style of play
Etc

That would be far too sensible for some on this forum Ned.

I hope so, and i hope this time Tan listens. Dalman for all his faults has been around football alot longer than Tan and Dalman has a large investment in the club to protect.

Bulut had us midtable in the Championship. The issue was the style.

But has anyone seen the style of Nathan Jones at Luton and Charlton? He'd get some leeway because of his connection to the club, but I don't think I could watch that over a whole season - it's a tough watch.

I'd rather lose playing good football is the biggest lie since £350 million per week to the NHS.

True, Dalman also told Tan numerous times not to go with Riza but go with experience, and also told Tan to sack Riza several times but only agreed when it was too late. If Tan keeps making football decisions instead of getting people in who know the game to do it, then we will never move forward.

But how do you know that?

That’s purely speculation

In previous FAB or Trust meetings with Dalman + Choo (can't remember which group) the minutes stated that when asked why we keep going for inexperienced managers Dalman distanced himself from Tan by saying "the owner likes to promote from within". There were quite a few posts on here saying that Dalman had fallen out with Tan because he had taken too long to sack Riza.
