The level of League One

Wed May 14, 2025 9:36 pm

Watching the Stockport v Leyton Orient matches in the play-offs should get rid of any thoughts from anyone that had them that we just have to keep our squad to get promoted next season.

I know it's two of the top six playing and obviously high intensity because of what's at stake, but been massively impressed by both teams across both games.

I don't know if we have the energy in midfield to cope with this league, or enough players who will do the nasty stuff will.

We obviously need to keep our best players.

But what's also essential is having players who know about this league - same with the manager if possible.

Go on City get Dave Challinor they said he's had 7 promotions starting in non league. And get him to bring in that defender Horsfall he wins everything in the air.

Totally agree Worcester. Just looked at Dave Challinor’s CV. Very impressive. A centre back so he would know all about the ugly part of the game, been successful as a manager in the lower leagues and has a degree in physiotherapy. That would keep our utterly useless medical team on their toes. Sadly - I can’t see him listening to the ridiculous insights of Mr Tan.

Division 1 is not going to be easy that’s for sure

It’s even more psychical than the championship and we know how City struggled with that last season

I’m fairly sure our current team of players would not get promoted next season

There need to be some serious “tweaking” of the squad to make us competitive and we need to recruit 3/4 leaders and experienced lower level players

We need characters and battlers in the team. Siopis would be perfect for League One.

This current team would struggle as they lack backbone

The one thing we’ll need as fans is patience. If we think we’ll walk this league we’ve another thing coming. It may take a few seasons but with proper structures and planning we’ll eventually return to where we belong

We were underpowered and underskilled in the championship, we'll still be underpowered.

Centre halves and keepers concern me, massively.

I think Ralls on an L1 contract is essential. Not worried about Wintle, king, J Colwill or Robertson, they have done well in this division previously.

Turnbull, Rubin and Robinson may not fancy it, but its not their games, the centre halfs will be "rag-dolled" all over the park

Having watched the 4 semi finals there didn't seem to be a lot of really skilful play, excellent moves etc, it just seemed to be launch the ball forward, and then watch it go back. The game last night was dreadful, I thought we couldn't pass the ball 5 yards to our own players, but that was on another level last night. Maybe it was the nerves kicking in in the semi final players afraid of making a mistake. Physically we will struggle unless we get some bruises in, but I think we will definitely be around the promotion places. Us fans need to be patient especially at the start of the season when we might struggle a bit to adjust to league 1

We should be demanding top 6.

I expect alot of turnover in players coming and going, which can't be a bad thing based on the desire of some of this seasons lot. However, 7th or lower for Cardiff City is disaster.

Repeat threads, same topic... worried about L1. Again, what's happened to this fanbase and club! Our kids have been loaned out to this level; who have minutes of first team experience between them.

Reading, in absolute crisis and an asset stripped squad finished comfortably safe.

From what I've seen of league one play off teams we have nothing to fear going down. We went down because of gross mismanagement and a lack of leadership on the pitch as key players Ramsey, Ralls and Robinison were too often injured. If we changed Riza in February or March we would have stayed up. Riza gets off easily with the nice guy tag. Utter failure as a manager. If we add ome leadership to this squad and a good manager, we will easily be top six.
