Des Buckingham positives and negatives

Des Buckingham is the favourite for the Cardiff job. I think this would be a brilliant appointment. I have seen him operate at Oxford and was gutted when he got sacked. He was the victim of getting Oxford promoted too early I feel and didn’t have the squad depth to cope with injuries. Just as the players were coming back he got sacked and then Rowett had a full squad to choose from. Not to take anything away from Rowett as he did well but I honestly think Des has a higher ceiling than Rowett.

Anyway some positives if he was to take the job.

He instils players with confidence. Josh Murphy was awful for 18 months then the last 5 under Des he absolutely flourished and became the player he is today which is a very good upper level championship player. Players with confidence issues will thrive under Des. Colwill will be his baller and he will make him a better footballer.

He likes exciting football. He plays front foot pressing football attacking with pace. It took a little while to get the players used to this but once they were results changed overnight. He likes his wingers to be attacking forwards in a 433.

He is very media savvy. He has been involved in City group for his career as a manager and is very good with interviews. He says the right things. He brings the fans on board and involves them.

Community minded. When an Oxford fan killed himself, he led the community aspect of this and really came into his own. He wore a boys get sad too hoodie on the touch line and was instrumental in their family being invited and treated like royalty. Little things like that make a huge difference. When he left Mumbai thousands went to the airport to see him off very early in the morning. They loved him. Oxford fans loved him and were gutted when he got sacked.

He will play the youngsters and will make them feel ten feet tall. I’m excited to see our youngsters and how much they will improve if he did get the job. He will give them the freedom to play football.

There are negatives. He stubbornly refused to stop playing his way when Oxford were losing. The squad had lots of injuries and couldn’t keep up high press and fast football but it’s what he does. He sees it as entertainment.

Inexperienced in the UK. Coached for a long time but only a year or so in the UK.

Won’t be a yes man and would that work with Tan??

I would be very excited if this happened.

Interesting, thanks for posting.

Of the names linked, he seems to make more sense than others.

Could certainly do a lot worse.

We won't get him him as he is the perfect profile for the job.

It really doesn’t make sense them hiring an agent to find the new manager. They are not learning from their mistakes. Clueless fools. Makes you think if all this is deliberate sabotage by Tan due to the rebrand etc. Not sure what he will get out of it though, but what is seen as the obvious choice of manager to us, it’s incredible than Tan and his clowns keep making the wrong choice.

Trollope was an obvious choice. Look what happened there.

Hmm, matter of opinion, but he certainly wasn’t an obvious choice to me.

Everyone was really excited that the Welsh coach was becoming our manager. Bright new ideas etc etc.

Someone on this forum said the other day that one of the managers that was linked was a solid no in their eyes because ‘they had never been a top player’

Wonder if they would say the same about Buckingham considering he had no playing career really.

He was a keeper. Not many keepers become managers. They did an article on it down here.

Nathan Jones still hovering about?
