“ Jesper Daland “

Thu May 08, 2025 3:49 pm

Jesper Daland is the latest player to vent his frustration after suffering relegation in his first season in the Welsh capital.

The Norwegian signed last summer following the departure of Mark McGuinness to Luton Town, however in a twist of fate, both players will likely play their football in League One next term.

Daland's maiden campaign in the Welsh capital was a mixed bag. Having started brightly, his form and fitness both suffered and he endured a patchy final six months of the campaign.

In a statement to supporters, whom he believes "deserve better" than the terrible football Cardiff offered up last season, he vowed to stay and help the club regain its Championship status next term.

Jesper Daland:

"It has been a tough and frustrating season, both personally and as a team," said Daland, writing on social media.

"You, the fans, deserve so much better. You have stood by us and shown unwavering support all year long. I take my hat off to you.

"Now it is time to switch off for a bit, then get back to work and prepare to bring this club back to where it truly belongs."

Undecided about Daland. Sometimes I think he's playing well, other times he has a shocker.

Expect him to stay because nobody at Championship level will be interested. Unless he goes back abroad obviously.

His debut away at Swansea was brilliant, recently though he gets shrugged off the ball too easily. If we can re-coup some of the money spent on him I'd let him leave

Too error prone for a midfielder, never mind a CB. If we can make our money back on him, I’d have sold him yesterday.

Too early to judge him fully as he was injured a lot and he never got a full run in a team that was shocking anyway. Give him a full pre-season and see.

There’s a player there definitely but D1 is much more psychical so he may struggle

Maybe time for him to move on

I think the championship is a brutal league to get dropped into.

I think the speed, skill and physicality is a step up from where he came. He'll improve and be in a lesser league.

And lets be honest we don't have a Morrison, Hudson, Flint,Turner and of course Bamba getting him through those tough games.

We need an old-school bruiser in their next season, too many inexperianced lads

Agree especially with the last sentence.

I like both Will Fish and Dylan Lawlor, but can't play them together next season.

Need an experienced bruiser as you call it, to play alongside one of them.

Not changing the CB partnership every week will help too.

Spot on. Birmingham's signed two very good centre backs and then had Grant Hanley as an option who ended up playing a bit-part. Alot of praise goes to their attacked, but they also recruited a good defence this time last year.
