" Rubin Colwill is wanted "

Thu May 08, 2025 3:44 pm

A number of Championship clubs are plotting moves for Cardiff City’s attacking midfielder Rubin Colwill this summer following their relegation to League One.

Colwill’s suitors are actively trying to find out Cardiff’s price tag on the player.

No secret that's I've been very critical of Rubin over the last few years, some would say I've given him harsh criticism.

I've been so critical because I know he has the ability, but hasn't shown it enough.

It's just not working for him with us.

So maybe a move elsewhere would be good for him and he can fulfill his potential.

As long as we get the right fee.

Rubin Colwill is quality.

All he’s had as he has got older, is pathetic, clueless managers.

The facts are there, Tans Puppets

We must not sell our best players.

And NO money should we sell Salech.

I am not sure we need to sell Rubin.

We have a number of players who are out of contract which will save us £7.5m per year. If we sell Chambers and Robinson we will also save a further £5m - so £12.5m in total.

RC contract is not due to expire until 2027 so we have no reason to sell.

We don't need to, but we should.

The lad obviously has the ability but for whatever reason, it's not working with us.

I think it's best for all parties that we allow him to leave. He can fulfill his potential somewhere else and we get a bit of money.

I just don't see him fulfilling his potential with us unfortunately.

Last three seasons in the league for Rubin Colwill:

99 appearances
2 goals
6 assists

Not good enough for an attacking player.

Sell him - may well do well elsewhere like I said, but it is clearly not working for him with us.

I'm split on rubin, on his day he can run the game but those days are few and far between

I'd like to see him with a manager who fully trusts him as I do believe theres not many players in league 1 who could get near him on his day

So if we get a manager in who can get the best out of Ruben then he's worth keeping but if someone offers a decent wedge for him then I'd probably take the money

He’s got great technical ability but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him sprint? Hes a luxury player. If we get a manager that wants players to press and chase down then Rubin is not going to fit into the team. That’s the reason Bellamy doesn’t include him in the Welsh squad.

A move could be exactly what he needs to progress his career & to find out if it's the managers we've had lately or Rubin himself that is the issue. Could be good for both him & Wales if he's half as good as some think he is.

Re: " Rubin Colwill is wanted "

Thu May 08, 2025 4:38 pm

I'd love to keep him, and I think a season in League 1 retraining to play deeper midfield could be the best thing for him. For all of the potential he's shown in attacking areas, his end product has been too disappointing for far too long. The fact that he's not been trusted to start under so many different managers is damning.

If we got a good offer and it meant we could keep Salech, it's an easy sell.

I will stand by this:

We need quality like Rubin and a year with us in League, he could really shine:

He needs to go for the good of his career. He also needs to play with better players and an experienced manager that will finally improve his decision making and settle on a position that plays to his strengths. If he stays at Cardiff with all the local lad scrutiny he won't improve and may ultimately get worse. Sell now. 5 million plus a big sell on clause.

There will be several well-run clubs fancying a crack at Rubin. Even his harshest critics can see a player in there.

I saw the interview with Bellamy and he was intimating that he sees his future deeper. He can't be the player we thought he was going to be at 18, he is too big and heavy for that position, he needs re-coaching to be a genuine midfielder.

We don't know what he has been told to do over the years, from taking pop shots at daft times to not shooting when it is on. He doesn't act as if the ball is made of cryptonite, he loves it, but holds onto it far too long because we have the most stay in position, non-moving team I can recall ever down the city.

I think a well-coached 25-year-old Colwill is in the Premier League with 9 seasons ahead of him

I'd play him and his brother. 46 games next season, terrorising League 1 defenders. A full season, lots of confidence and come back to championship in a 12month hopefully in a much better place. Alongside Robertson and others.....

He needs to toughen up and be more psychical in his approach

He has all the attributes to be a box to box midfielder but not sure he has the heart, strength and desire for it

His brother is a lot more aggressive and powerful but maybe doesn’t quite have the technical ability

Mould them together for the perfect midfielder

Really poor stats for an attacking player.

If we signed an attacking midfielder with those stats, we wouldn't be happy.

If someone offers £4m, take it and run.

My thoughts exactly mate.

If we were still in the Championship I agree maybe sell. He has not set the Championship world alight in the same way that some have in the past.

But we are in Division 1 and I really think a drop in division could be just what he needs. He will have more space and be playing against weaker players and this could be just what he needs.

If we sold him yes we would have some money for him but we would also have to replace him.

I think he is certainly worth keeping till January and see what happens then,

I can see any one of our current players, that can command a decent price, will be sold.

Re: " Rubin Colwill is wanted "

Teams like wrexham or ipswich would suit Rubin Cowills playing style. Hope he don't leave as he would be a key player for us in League 1.
As for a price tag I say we should ask 4 million. The lowest we could sell him for in my opinion is 2 million.
Many might think lower or higher but considering we are league 1 AND he is 1 of our best players I think we should keep him at all cost.
But since he is welsh he might be persuaded by wrexham if they were to go for him.

Good luck to him, he won't be missed.

It's a shame, but we've waited long enough for him to tear it up and reach his potential. It just hasn't happened for whatever reason. I'd be happy if he moved on, but please put a sell-on clause in his contract!
It will be a bit heartbreaking to see him playing elsewhere and inevitably becoming the player a lot of us believed he would.

I don't rate him very highly think he's been given a chance many times to establish himself buy he hasn't done it for me sell him

I don't think any manager has got the best out of him. I think he's suffering at our club. I'd love to see him go on as he's shown enough (for me) to show that there is something there.

Maybe the time is now. I hope he stays as I'd love to see him click. Sadly though, another poor season; albeit in a tough environment.

2 goals wow! I thought he went missing end of the season. With those goal stats I'd be tempted to sell if price is right.

Yup. Me too.

I honestly believe the Rubin issue is not about his talent, because he clearly has loads, instead I think it is down to the managers he is playing under and I honestly think he responds to a good manager (Like Bellamy) and I accept why some are saying he needs to go elsewhere. Somewhere to where there is a better manager.

And this is the point as to why I think he should stay.

What we need to do is get a decent manager in so the likes of Rubin will flourish.

That I think is the answer.

How many managers has he played under though?
