Apparently a New Name on Tans Managers Shortlist

Mon May 05, 2025 1:18 pm

PLEASE NO:

Veteran boss Karl Robinson, who has vast experience in the Football League, is under consideration for the manager's post at Cardiff City Stadium and has been shortlisted among a number of applicants.

By Glen Williams

Robinson began his managerial career aged 29, spending six years with Milton Keynes Dons and guiding them to the Championship in 2015. Robinson was sacked the following year, and was appointed manager of Charlton Athletic soon after.

After spending 18 months at the club he was sacked.

Oxford United were the next club, where he spent five years and guided the club to two play-off campaigns before eventually being sacked.

Robinson, 44, has enjoyed lengthy stints at all of his previous clubs. He took charge of MK Dons six years and achieved promotion out of League One in 2015, but suffered relegation the following year.

Following a brief stint as Sam Allardyce's assistant at Leeds United, Robinson took the manager's job at League Two Salford City, whom he steered to safety after taking over while they were rock-bottom of the Football League.

Robinson, a former striker who played for Welsh clubs Caernarfon and Rhyl during his playing career, has almost 800 games as a manager under his belt.

Interim boss Ramsey, whose own future is as yet undecided with his playing contract up this summer, has urged the club to make the next appointment quickly in order to provide everyone with clarity.

Definitely not. Poor playing career. Won nothing as a manager.

We really are shopping in the basement if we are looking at him

His league 1 record is actually pretty decent 1 promotion and 4 play off finishes,

Obviously we could do a lot better but with tan In charge we could do a lot worse, I'm still in the Nathan Jones camp

Baffled by some of the responses by our fans.

It's like they don't realise we've been relegated.

Seen people mention the likes of Steve Cooper, not happening.

Robinson is much more realistic and he has a good record in League One.

So what, he's made a short list. Doesn't mean we'll have him. At least he knows the league well. Still think Ramsey is in the mix and gets it.

Completely agree with this.

People think we are a top championship team still.

We aren’t.

People also mention playing careers.

Just because he wasn’t a top player means nothing.

Sir Alex wasn’t a top player. One of the best managers ever if not the best.

“Poor playing career” I actually laughed out loud when I read that Matt.

You could throw Mourinho and Wenger into that mix as well.

I almost wrote a long list of managers who have been top managers with a poor playing career but I was worried that some people on this forum would be confused Paul!

This is our level now.

He’s very much a DJ type of manager.

The women’s team will get a lot of attention.

I seriously doubt we'll get a good manager and good players to enable us to compete next season. We could do it with either a good manager and average players or with good players and an average manager.
In league 1 we will be classed as one of the bigger clubs so should be able to attract both a decent manager and players but the big elephant in the room is Vincent Tan who as we all know thinks he has all the answers about how to run a football club.
Karl Robinson is a solid manager at league 1 level and would probably do a decent job for us but would he have interference from above?

I dont mind this after the recent list of failures.

Prefer a Nathan Jones, but when there's been Rizas and Morisons etc, at least he's been managing longer than a strawberry season!

He had Oxford playing delightful football but with a soft underbelly. Like DJ would go on runs of battering teams but go on runs where didn’t know where the next goal was coming from.

He was taking Oxford down when he got sacked.

About time Cardiff got an Oxford reject after the superb showing of all the Cardiff rejects so might just work a treat.
