Vincent Tan and The Divide

Tan's rebranding of Cardiff from their traditional blue to red in 2012 caused deep divisions, which have not fully healed for some even a decade after he reversed his decision.

More recently, supporters have voiced their anger with two large demonstrations this season against the owner, chairman Mehmet Dalman and chief executive Ken Choo.

Cardiff's perpetual lurching from one crisis to another is seen by many as a result of a lack of football knowledge on the board, denying the club a clear strategy or long-term plan.

Nathan Blake:

"The board don't know what they're doing and haven't done since they first stepped through the door, says Nathan Blake.

"Things need to change. Whether they will or not, who knows, but if they don't, I just don't know where this ends.

"These fans deserve more, this city deserves more. To have a billionaire owner and still be in the position we're in… there needs to be a plan. The board needs to improve. I don't think anything changes until things change at the top."

That was what fans were demanding at a protest before the draw against Oxford United on Easter Monday.

"We've been fighting a relegation battle for four years and we've had enough of it. The owner just doesn't want to know," Chris, one of the leaders of the protest holding a banner that read 'Tan Out', told BBC Sport Wales.

"He hasn't been to a game for years. We can't cope with Tan anymore. We don't know who would replace him but it can't get any worse."

Therein lies the issue for those who want Tan gone: Cardiff are utterly dependent on their owner and there are currently no feasible alternatives.

The club recorded pre-tax losses of £11.66m in its most recent accounts for the 2023-24 season, showing further support from Tan.

The Malaysian businessman added another £11.83m worth of loans, bringing the total owed to him to around £68m.
The club said the loans will be written off or converted to equity, while interest is also being waived. Tan has also provided a written commitment outlining his ongoing support.

Loans from directors and other connected parties have also increased by an additional £11m, taking the total to £40.3m.
Dalman accounts for a large amount of that £40.3m so, although fans may call for the chairman and board to be sacked, it is not a case of simply dismissing a man so heavily invested in the club.

Interest of £millions a year are paid to Dalman for his loans.

Until Tan and Dalman can sell Cardiff to a buyer willing to match their valuation, they will be staying. And where Tan is concerned, the club cannot survive without him for now.

The debt is not going down and Tan wants £200 million for Cardiff City.

The value of Cardiff City will only go down now that they are playing League 1 next season.

Cardiff City are currently £110 million in debt

Its a shit show.

Sunderland till I Die was a documentary on Netflix that showed the state of Sunderland when they were in League One. The then owner sold the club to some business magnate from Norway I think and he left his son to run the place. A nice present for a 28 year old. Sunderland then went from sending a £2.8m bill to the previous owner to break even. They are now pushing for the Premier.

So it can be done although we are no Sunderland with 40,000 gates. We need to get back to the Premier after the reset. This is not going to happen with Tan.

Never learns from his mistakes and this is the biggest issue.

He has spent money, the signings of Madine, Cornelius, the amount of money used by Warnock, even this season we’ve brought in players for decent amounts - wages we’ve always been one of the better paying sides.

He has had so many opportunities to notice where things have gone wrong and he hasn’t - he continues to make the same bad mistakes time and time again.

It’s a worrying trend and not one that I think will be broken any time soon.

We are going into next season as a club who have been in the premier league in the last 10 years, and in the top two tiers for over two decades - that makes us a fairly big name in League One, but I don’t feel confident at all.

There’s no incentive to sell. Dalman (banker) and Tan keep loaning money to the club and Dalman, particularly, will be enjoying interest payments on his loan. They are money men.

Why do they keep throwing good money after bad?

Well, the club isn’t worth anything. There is probably value in the brand but the big ticket item is the stadium. I say hand over the stadium to Tan and Dalman, we’ll take a lease on it and pay them a % of gate receipts. We can then start from scratch on a financially sustainable platform. Paying out in wages only what we get in for TV, memorabilia, gate receipts etc. Cardiff City will live on no matter what stadium we’re in - we’re still here after leaving Ninian Park.

Dalman was approached by a consortium to buy CCFC and wouldn’t even bring the offer to Tan without a back-hander.

We need people running this club who care. Not Sam Hammam Take 2.

The rebranding was an absolute disgrace, I waited a life time to see my club play in the top tier, My first away game was Crystal Palace 1974 a one all draw, I also did all the Heartlepools and Chesters on pissing down tuesday and Wednesday nights, i even put up with Ron Futcher’s one man show at Port Vale, Dont even mension Maidstone, With that said and done, it never detered me from following the City home or away, But that pathetic rebrand killed my buzz, I didn’t go to one game whilst City played in Red not even in the Premiership, I even fell out with mates over it and dont speak to this day. Now look where we are, Because the true Cardiff City Fans refused to except the Red pill, or the obvious Man U copy kit, Tan took the hump, even after Cardiff won promotion again in the correct coulurs Tan still had the hump, Tan who came from the land of counterfeit was never going to get Malaysians to except a counterfeit Man U, ASK any Chelsea, Tottenham, Man City or Arsenal Fan about Malaysia and they will tell you Only Liverpool and Man U exist in Malaysia which Mr Tan refused to except, As for the back stabbers and kiss arse idiots that stabbed Sam in the back, no doubt you will disappear with premier lg fans that appeared from no where, Anyway if Mr Tan does the honourable thing and fks off, I will gladly follow CCFC home and away in Lg 1!!! :bluescarf:
