The L1 Squad

Wed Apr 23, 2025 5:31 pm

So we lose Meite, ElGarzi,Collins, Goutas, Evans (Nuport), Rinomhota, Conte, Alves, Mannsverk.
I assume Rambo and Ralls stay, but we'll have shed loads of CMs returning under contract.

Keepers, both L1 plus Turner

Defenders
RB - NG/Kpakio
CB- Daland, Fish, Chambers, Tsoundo, Lawlor (U21)
LB- Bagan, Giles

CMs
Turnbull, J Colwill, Robertson, King, Wintle,Ralls

Attacking midfielder/2nd striker
Willock, Ashford, Robinson, R Colwill, Ramsey (maybe above nowadays)

Wide players
O'Dowda, Tanner

Centre forwards
Salech, Etete, Simic, Reindorf

God, we've needed proper wingers for years !!!

Who is going to decide on Rambo, Ralls and Rinomhota?

I know a few on here think there'll be clubs queing for CR47, I am not one of those, and except for Salech, i can't see to many phone calls coming our way, so this will be the basis of a squad.

Not too bad starting point for a promotion campaign just need 3 wingers and a monster centre half.

What about Isaac Davies?

I wasn't sure if he was a wide player or 2nd striker and forgot to add him

I think he'll rip up L1 if his body holds out a summer training schedule

I'd offer Meite, Evans and Rino new contracts as they could offer some thing in league 1. It's coming to the stage where it's now or never for Evans here, so league 1 could be a good time to implent him into the first team aswell as Reindorf, King, J Colwill, Conte - basically the youngers. Otherwise just move them on.

I can't see Chambers wanting to play at that level, hopefully he does. If so it's got to be a Chambers and Fish pairing.
But the club may want to cash in on him, Salech and also Robertson - who is good at L1 level as we know.

Ramseys done so, like I've said in other posts, he will be a Ryan Mason type of figure.
Ralls got a bit more left in him so squad rotation for him.

If this coming weekend was the first league 1 game I'd go along the lines of:
(with players already at the club)

................ Hovarth.
Ng..... Fish.... Chambers.... Bagan
...............Rino.... King.
Tanner.... Robertson...Ashford
................. Salech

As the season goes on, implent more of the youngers

I think a lot will have to go due to wages. I’m assuming anyone who signed on a free last season will have big wages. So I expect the likes of Chambers and Willock to go. Also think Turnbull, Daland, Robbo, O’Dowda could leave.

Just my opinion. Be interesting to see anyone worth anything or sold or if we make a go of it.

The squad needs a shake up and players will be sold too. The club will have to listen to all offers. Any player. Robinson will certainly go as will Ng. I'd be happy if Colwill went even at a cut price. Keeping Robertson and Salech is key. We need a new Captain. Sadly Ralls time is up.

We couldn't give Wintle away last summer as his wages were so high.

If we agree to tear up Chambers and Willocks' contract by mutual agreement and let them be free agents, would they be confident to get another championship club?

Has Robertson or Turnbull done that much to be the subject of a hard offer from a championship club?

I can see someone coming in for NG but at 29 he only has one decent deal left and no resale value, so a million tops.

Colwill will only be just 23, I can't see any championship clubs coming in for him, I'd see what he does in L1 first.

The first sign of our ambition for League One next season is Salech.

If we accept the first offer, that will tell me the club have no intention of going for promotion.

But if we hold out and even keep him if possible, I will feel much more positive.

I would expect a few to go - Robinson and Robertson are two of those.

The likes of Fish, Daland, Ng, Rinomhota, Tanner, Rubin, Bagan, Joel Colwill etc will do well in League One but haven't done enough to receive much interest from Championship clubs - so will more than likely stay.

The new contracts for O'Dowda and Robinson will almost certainly have relegation release clauses in them.

Some players will inevitably leave, we have to accept that. But if we can keep hold of two or three of the better ones then that's something to build a team around.

Don't know why, but have a feeling that Ramsey will stay but take a pay cut - he'll be a player/coach. Not sure about Ralls.

But the biggest problem will be the manager. Before anyone even mentions the bloke with the initials NW, forget it - not happening.

It will be interesting to see who gets the job. Ramsey has made quite clear he doesn't want it, even if it was offered to him - which wouldn't surprise me.

A lot of big decisions to be made and unfortunately, I'm not sure the club have ever properly prepared for us being in League One - which is crazy, given it's been a real possibility for years.

I would let Ramsey, Ralls and Callum Robinson go due to not being great players anymore, injury prone AND the high wages.
Mind you a club will go in for Callum Robinson so he would jump ship quickly.
Meite should be moved on we keep playing him when he has no pace and is a battering ram for defenders who outsmart him.

Ramsey and Robinson are still great players. Robinson is our top scorer. Ramsey has had some great performances. I hope for the sake of possible promotion, they both stay - on reduced wages. Robinson probably has a relegation clause for a pay cut in the new contract.

By the way, you can't just "let Robinson go" - he's under contract.

I'd guess Chambers will leave I'd imagine he's on pretty big wages and can't see him wanting to drop down to league 1. A loan deal might suit everyone.
Wouldn't surprise me to see a few leave on loan Darland Turnbull Robinson anyone on significant money but a few years left

Don't need him if we somehow keep Salech.

He's struggled a lot since his loan with us ended.

We need both of them.

Like all fans, we overestimate our players' desirability for other clubs.

Why would anyone come in for Chambers, he is not a centre half, nor a rightback, he is an expensive, slow defensive midfielder.
Same for Robinson, 19 goals in three seasons and an ever-increasing injury record.
Robertson is still a young man in a position where you peak in about 4 years, so he has time, but there are not many clubs pinning his name to the top of their recruitment. He hasn't done enough to overpay.
Turnbull and Colwill are similar in terms of not being sure what they do, so unless that's what you want, why would anyone come in for them?
