Gunter as manager?

Mon Apr 21, 2025 7:15 pm

I would not be surprised if Tan gave the job to Chris Gunter in the summer.

He's manager of the Wales U19 team at the moment.

But he's been brought back to our club by Ramsey, who had Gunter as his best man at his wedding.

He could easily do both jobs - Cardiff City manager and Wales U19 manager. Would probably even take the City job ahead of Wales' youth team because it's better for career progression.

We know Tan won't invest in players or manager, so Gunter would be a cheap manager. Tan might think fans would support Gunter because he came through the academy.

Ramsey said today "it's just these games, I want to get back to fitness". Suggests he doesn't want the job after Norwich. Gunter could keep him on as a player/coach.

I do not think this is impossible.

I'm on the train back and had this theory, but maybe I'm just bored

Tony Mowbray is who we need.

Don't disagree, but I'm being realistic here.

It all comes to who chooses Allan.

If it's Dalman, he'll go with a foreign manager that wants a hefty wage.

If it's Tan, would not be surprised if he goes for Gunter.

Well let's hope its not tan whatever happens... do I want foreign coach? Depends on how he likes to set up? Could be good for our youngsters making them more comfortable on ball? Out of the two must choose dalman

He did with Coventry and Blackburn.

He would be perfect and has worked well under shit owners.

I think mowbray could be a wise move he's been there got the tee shirt went down with Blackburn and got them back up at the first attempt but we know our club won't make a sensible decision like that

Nathan Jones. Experienced at that level, loves Cardiff and have Ramsey Ralls as player coaches and Gunter. Great Cardiff connection and good tole models for our youngsters. Problem is Charlton are already in the playoffs and Jones sees it as a project. On the other hand Cardiff are a much bigger club and he is a massive fan.

Mowbray has just left WBA SO IS AVAILABLE,

Re: Gunter as manager?

Mon Apr 21, 2025 8:34 pm

It all comes down to length of contract! Tan will not give above a years contract, so no proven manager would take this? Its not that they wont come its the length of time and contract.

Bear with me on this, I may be going crazy

But is this possible:

Chris Gunter has been brought back by his best mate, Aaron Ramsey, does a bit of coaching before taking charge of the team in the summer.

Gunter already manages Wales U19s so knows the young players. He can split that job with being our manager.

He keeps his mate Ramsey as player/coach so he can play in the World Cup.

Eventually when Ramsey retires, Gunter hands over the reigns to Ramsey.

I just find it weird how Gunter has suddenly returned to the club, there's been opportunities before so why now?

Like I say, it's a theory and I may be way off

But it makes a bit of sense.

We will need to get a experience manager as soon as possible

A rookie coach is too big for us. How dramatic.

If we want, we can attract a decent coach. Cardiff City manager is a big job regardless of what any forum post states. The likelyhood of anyone in this senior team to execute is very low, though.
