What if Cardiff had got Rowett??

Fri Apr 18, 2025 11:33 am

Rowett took over ‘little’ Oxford in December and the table since he took over has Oxford in 8th place form wise. I couldn’t believe that myself but it seems kosher.

Much like all fanbases, when Oxford lose some fans get a little arsey about Rowett and the style of football. Under Des the football was much more proactive and this was shown at the start of the season until teams found Oxford out and the lack of quality in the squad couldn’t survive injuries.

Even now with safety almost assured there are some who say Rowett isn’t a long term option.

What would Cardiff fans feel about a manager who kept Cardiff up pragmatically. I actually think the Oxford first team is comparable to Cardiff’s but Cardiff have a deeper squad which I think has under performed badly. Rowett would have maximised the capability of the squad.

What would Cardiff fans prefer? I have seen on twitter Des Buckingham being linked to the Cardiff job if we go down. That would be a different style of football but I think with some of the younger talent we have that could really work.

If Rowett had replaced Bulut we would be 8-10th, he done a great job at Millwall as well.

Do you think we think we are too good for him? Or maybe snowgate was a factor?

He's a good manager. Did well at Burton and his first spell at Birmingham. No surprise he's doing well with Oxford.

Can't be blamed for Birmingham's relegation last season because they were already in big trouble.

I think the fact he was working for Sky during his break from management helped him, gave him the opportunity to watch and analyse a lot of games at this level.

So I think he probably would have kept us up. But yes, people would complain about the style.

There’s been loads of managers throughout the season who would have been available, and done a better job than riza, for one reason or another the club or should I say tan have stuck with him,no offence to riza, but he’s way out of his depth,he just don’t have a clue the tactics, team selection and substitution are laughable at times, the facts don’t lie his win ratio is horrendous, the team look shapeless and we are a easy team to beat, when we go down Vincent tan has only himself to blame, why he has decided to take this route we may never know, but all seems very odd that he’s done nothing to try and prevent it from happening

I just think at championship level he knows his way around, just what we needed at the time.

He's a manager we should have gotten here some years ago, always seemed to do a decent job wherever he went. :bluebird:
