The current rule is 6 seconds with a free kick if held for more than 6 seconds So basically a watered down version of a law they never imposed I think i have seen it imposed once in the 30 odd years it been in place

I didn't think that rule was still in place, as you never see a goalkeeper being penalised these days.

The issue is in 2 parts .. the first is they don’t implement the count at the moment, you get the occasional wave of an arm to speed it up .. the second is GK’s and how they claim the ball. The slow fall to the ground for no apparent reason, then the 5-10 seconds to get back up etc. the rule will make little difference if the count isn’t initiated until that is resolved as that’ll still be close to 20 seconds.

The only thought I could think to encourage it would be the fans doing a count to make it clearer, but that’s unlikely to impact much.

Still a law of the game just never used So can’t see why the 8 second rule will be used

I know I'm old & was a keeper all through school but wasn't it the rule for a long time that the keeper couldn't take more than 5 steps or some such number of steps with the ball before releasing it? Not that many refs took any notice, but I did see a couple of indirect free kicks given for it.

It was 4 steps in the hand But to not stop us bouncing it at many times as we like or dribbling to and picking up many times as well

Okay, makes sense & my memory hasn't gone yet thanks.
