BLUEBIRD RATINGS (v ASTON VILLA FA Cup 5)

Fri Feb 28, 2025 10:21 pm

Ethan Horvath 9 (star man)
Played out of his skin. Made a series of stunning saves from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey. hen flew through the air in the second half to deny Marcus Rashford and John McGinn efforts. Did a tremendous job.

Perry Ng 8
Mixed it with Rashford and did really well, all things considered. Also confident on the ball which is what was needed. Set Salech up with a great low cross.

Dylan Lawlor 8
Some debut for the 19-year-old! What a way to announce yourself. Made some huge tackles and blocks. Won a footrace with Rashford and clattered him to get the visiting fans off their feet.

Dimitrios Goutas 7
Cardiff needed his physicality in there but did get caught out once or twice by livewire Ollie Watkins, which you can forgive.

Will Fish 8
Started excellently with a series of big headers and interventions. Backing up his performances consistently.

Luey Giles 7
Had a right ding-dong with Leon Bailey and the Villa man probably came out with a little more credit. But it was good battle and he can be proud of that display.

Anwar El Ghazi 8
Could tell he was up for it against his old side. Made one or two strong runs and sent one effort just wide from 20 yards out.

Rubin Colwill 8
Started one attack with a lovely turn and 40-yard pass. Needed his composure to stem the momentum of Villa sometimes.

Aaron Ramsey 8
Played an almost quarter-back role and did well in that role. Kept the ball and used his vision to mount the odd attack. City benefitted from his leadership in there.

Chris Willock 7
Neat in possession and showed a bit of skill to turn the odd defender or two. Needed to help out Giles at the back and did that.

Callum Robinson 7
Had to play deep and stuck to his task. Was never going to be a night where he was going to have a bundle of chances.

Subs

Yousef Salech (Robinson 46) 8
Showed physicality and made sure Villas' defenders knew they were in a game. Had one excellent chance saved.

Joel Bagan (Giles 64) 8
Brought a coolness in possession and did well against Bailey after coming on. Blocked a big chance for Rashford.

Alex Robertson (Ramsey 64) 7
Had one shot blocked late on in the piece.

Cian Ashford (Willock 82) NA

Isaak Davies (Lawlor 82) NA

Who the fcuk gave them ratings???

Way, way too high for virtually every player

It was a backs against the wall, park the bus performance and everyone gave their all but those high marks are just ridiculous

Those rating are too high If all our players played to those rating we don’t come out with a loss. Midfield totally outclassed
If they were marks for effort then I would agree If it was not for our keeper the score would have been so much more

The ratings are a bit crazy

I'd go..

Hovrath 7 - Good game, plenty of opportunity to shine. Made some better/more difficult saves than both goals.
All defenders 6 - Battling/hard day at the office
All midfielders bar Rubin 6 - Outclassed, good effort, great opponents.
Rubin 7.1 - Great dribbling without impacting the game
Robbo 5 - Non existant, tough gig.
Salech 6 - Put himself about, shot on target, tough gig.

Ashford & Isaak 5.5. Good effort, game was dead by then.
Bagan 6.5 - Looked bright, having a decent season.

Special mention to Lawlor who looked good against McKenzie; who looked like he was about 20mph faster and livlier than anyone else in Villa Park. McKenzie like that destroys alot of prem LB's.

Agree, they've gone way OTT with those ratings.

Horvath's is fair but the others are a point or two too high.

Maybe it’s just perspective, i.e. whether it’s seen as a simple ‘loss’ or a battling performance against a much bigger ‘foe’?

Personally, I think Horvath (one or two dodgy kicks after being put under pressure from his own teammates apart) was the pick of the bunch but others played exceptionally well against a very good team and deserved high, if not quite this high, marks!

If nothing else, this game should be encouragement going forward in the more important Championship games, so maybe we should see it like that rather than beating down, which does appear to be a bit of a habit at times! :ayatollah:
