Really proud of the team and fans

Fri Feb 28, 2025 9:56 pm

I honestly expected a thrashing tonight.

But fair play, the team fought hard.

Fans brilliant too.

Know we lost 2-0 but remember who we were against, a Champions League team.

The player who scored the goals has won countless titles in Spain and France.

So well done the team, gave a good account of themselves.

On to Burnley :bluebird:

Spot on and the fans sounded loud and proud on the TV.

Yeah, Asensio only the 3 Champions League winners medals!

A good battling performance.

But don’t worry Worcester there’s the usual ones on here always complaining about something!

Agreed the fans were great, and most of the team worked really hard.
Special mention for Horvath he pulled off some big saves.

Lots of positives tonight...

Lawlor looks class and he's going to be some player.

Colwill looked our only player who could play for Villa and really showed his class tonight.

Horvath showed what a good keeper he is and very solid performances from all the players.

Would have liked us to go for it more at 1-0. Goal difference didn't matter and we didn't ever least the space behind Villa who were playing a high line.

Class showed in the end but no one could doubt the effort!!

Agree we should have went for it at 1 0. It was a keep the score down kind of performance. City fans amazing, villa fans mute.

Colwill was brilliant, fair play.

Could have gone for it at 1-0 but I can see why we didn't.

Overall, proud of the team and fans. A good night out.

Burnley is what matters on Tuesday.

We played well, soaked up the pressure and broke in numbers, unlucky not to get a goal with Salech but it is Villa who have been fantastic the past 2 seasons under Unai Emre.

Could have been another battering but our defence and Hovarth held together. Asensio’s goals were pulled back to the posts with Ethan in the right position for the normal shots. No complaints from me tonight, we did well against a tough opponent

Thought you defended really well and your keeper had a good game, but I was shocked you didn't have more of a go. Wasn't expecting you to open up fully with our attacking quality but our defence is poor and if you'd got at them more you almost definitely would have scored.

Thought your fans in the ground were great; loud and proud and the best at VP this season. Some of your fans outside the ground though were complete whoppers. A group of chavs wearing balaclavas tried to attack the Aston Social before the game and then scarpered when our fans came out to greet them. A woman was punched in the face by one of your fans on Witton Lane after the game and there's a lot of people on Twitter saying one of our fans had his face slashed. Letting 6k of you out at the same time as us onto Witton Lane was stupid by the police and led to the incidents above, and our fans weren't innocent either as some surrounded the coach park and were throwing bottles etc at the coaches.

Our atmosphere was understandably muted as it was a game we were expected to win comfortably and didn't until the end. Made me smile seeing some of your fans on Twitter with "I thought Villa Park was meant to have a good atmosphere?", obviously turning up expecting the atmosphere to be the same as our Champions League games. Every Premier League ground would have been the same last night, that's the way football is these days.

Good luck for the rest of the season and if you defend how you did last night you'll be sound.

I was worried about us constantly playing out from the back and nearly got caught out a few times, they need to vary it.
Still at least we can be proud of the effort of the players and fans who were superb. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear about some of our fans behaving like idiots, unfortunately we have our share as do all clubs.

Home atmosphere was quiet but your reasoning is fair.

Great vocal support from us.

Asensio is some player by the way.

Good luck for the rest of the season, especially in Europe.

Yes many positives last night, Horvath was excellent, Colwill was very good and if only he could be more consistant. What a debut for Lawlor i think we've got a gem in the making. Our defensive shape was very good but we hardly laid a glove on them going forward, on tuesday against Burnley we have attack them. As for the city fans, top class as usual.

seeing lots of praise for Horvath and Colwill but no love for Perry NG today

thought that was Perry NG's best performance for a very long time last night

The lads can hold their heads high after last nights performance.

Away to a champions league team with some brilliant players.

I’m surprised they played Asensio and Rashford but we weren’t fazed by them in the slightest.

Massive props to Lawler and Giles. Can’t be easy to come into a struggling team, away at home and need to defend against the likes of Ollie Watkins, but they did and they did it well.

If we can play with that much character and belief for the rest of the season, we will end the season very well.

More optimistic for Burnley after seeing the game last night.

Well done lads.

I thought we gave a great account of ourselves on the pitch, great to see certain individuals in particular Rubin and Lawlor receive some praise against PL opposition. I would have like to have seen us go a bit more knockout football gung ho towards the end to try and get a goal, but I am a massive FA cup fan, very pleased overall.

First visit to Villa Park, love those steps and how the road runs underneath the corner of the stand. Shakespeares pub by New St was great, Holyhead Bluebirds showed up, Made a weekend of it, stayed in the City, loved the tram system and the Black Sabbath bridge. Sunday back home went for a wilderness hike, from the Black Country to The Black Mountains! Roll on tomorrow night :ayatollah:
