" My thoughts on the signings & the club ownership "

Tue Jan 28, 2025 9:16 pm

Just giving my thoughts on the window so far.

I'm pleased with the two signings we've made so far.

Salech's early signs are promising. Watched his movement closely on Saturday, it's been a long time since we had a player who makes the sort of runs he does. Robinson doesn't do that, despite his brilliant season, because he's not a natural striker.

As for Mannsverk, I think he'll be a top player for us in the second half of the season. Will do a good job.

Still feel we need a winger and a LB.

Just also want to point out that it's possible for me to want Tan out and to also be pleased with our business.

Let me be clear, these signings are only being made because relegation is a real possibility. My opinion on the club ownership is unchanged.

So I hope people in a few weeks don't say "you were happy with the signings but now want Tan out, blah blah blah...."

A few good signings in a crisis do not repair the disillusionment at the club for many.

Being happy with the signings and being happy with the ownership are two separate things.

I’m also happy with the window so far, we are moving some players out on loan and permanently, and we have brought in one promising Striker and one player who when fully fit would walk into any team in this division, apart from possibly Leeds.

The mistake by the ownership this season was giving Bulut an contract extension but could see the logic for it. It was a disaster. I actually think many of the signings in the last two windows have made sense though. Robertson, Daland, Fish, Salech, Turnbull are all young and have the potential to improve and add value. Bringing through youngsters Colwill, Ashford, Bagan etc and there is actually a decent strategy to what the club are doing.

I concur to be fair.

I wonder if Riza would even be tempted (brave!) to switch to 442 for some home games. I think I'd see pigs fly first unfortunately but it'd be great to see Salech up there with perhaps Ashford or CR47 alongside him.

I also would like to see Robinson and Salech play together. Think it would work well, both have different but valuable qualities.

Won't be surprised if Salech starts at Leeds, we'll need someone who can hold the ball up well because we won't have much of the ball.

Well said Ned and a sentiment I'm sure will be shared by many, as the bigger picture is absolutely vital.

Squad has improved with these signings , my view on the ownership is be careful what you wish for , just look what the jacks got . Tan has put money in over the years and what a ride it’s been . Can’t blame him for being cautious.

Good post and one I agree with.

As I mentioned on another thread there seems to be a shift in signings with the age of recent players coming in also.

Agree with this...if we can survive this season thes players we need to grow and improve to push us on....a few will have good resale potential for sure

I think if we buy any more players of this quality the natives won't be restless enough to protest.
