Championship manager sacked

Sun Dec 15, 2024 1:45 pm

Oxford United can confirm that Des Buckingham has left his role as Men’s First Team Head Coach.

Des was appointed in November 2023 and led the Club to promotion to the EFL Sky Bet Championship at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Club would like to place on record its thanks to Des for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

The appointment of a new head coach will be confirmed in due course.

He is.

He will be at a higher level than Oxford pretty soon.

This isn’t like where Malky was sacked and never seen anywhere again.

Cardiff could do a lot, lot worse.

Oxford fans are raging.

It’s turned a pretty united club into one like Cardiff.

The funny story is Malky was stalked / haunted out of football by your Mate Tan.

Anyway what’s happened to your great manager and Oxford United?

My mate Tan???? Absolutely not a thing.

Oxford have one win in fifteen games and are still above Cardiff.

Cardiff could do a lot worse than getting Des Buckingham as manager.

I wonder if they'll appoint an interim manager, wait until he goes five games without a win then appoint him for the rest of the season?

Let’s be honest, he’s struggled at Championship level.

I don’t know where Oxford will end up, but their squad isn’t great, apart from maybe a couple of players.

Mind you, we haven’t exactly got a great squad or management team either.

His issue is getting Oxford promoted when he did.

Seems like a ridiculous decision to me. Where did their board think they'd be at this stage of the season?

Surely Buckingham's target this season was to not get relegated. Then push on next season.

I hope he resigned, if he was sacked it’s madness.

It seems to be an epidemic of owners not getting on with coaches this season.... what are they expecting when little Investment? Doesn't matter if near top or bottom of league it's happened 3 times or more his season? 9mnths average time in job in championship.

He’ll need to go ‘the long way round’ then if he’s going upwards. Sacked by Oxford who are currently flirting with the bottom 3 of the championship.

He's got some accolades... "Youngest ever manager in the A league".

That's like having a trial for Merthyr Town in your teens.

Managers are getting sacked for getting promotions against the odds. Oxford have so many ex city rejects in there squad what do the owners expect. Same if you get to premiership then struggle you lose job. No loyalty
