Alnwick

A bit of a random post but I've noticed he has around 20% of the vote in the MOTM poll.

Sheffield Wednesday had three shots on target, one of which was a goal - so he made two saves.

Watched the highlights and one was a decent save but the other was one I'd expect a Championship level goalkeeper to make.

This is not the first time this has happened, I've seen him get MOTM on here when he's made one save (which he should save) in a match.

Don't get me wrong, has been decent but there's also been occasions this season that he's let in goals he shouldn't have - if it was Horvath he'd be crucified for that (not saying that he's better than Alnwick because he isn't).

Like I say a random post, but just think he gets a bit of an easy time from our fans at times.

Alnwick is crucial in the way he is able to play the ball out from the back, he’s composed (more so than Horvath) and the players have more faith in him.

The MOM thing yesterday I think is just down to how poor the rest of the team were.

Ned said before he is part of our problem of why we are slow getting out from back....he stops play for no reason and your right makes a good said then he gets high marks for m.o.m? Perhaps we are fo bad he's only player worth voting for.. :D

Fair point about everyone else not playing well, but do think more players have been deserved of MOTM in previous games than Alnwick when he's made one save.

I never vote for a goalkeeper as MOTM unless they've made three or four top quality saves.

Sadly Allan, neither of our goalkeeper are high quality for this league. They are both bottom six goalkeepers, stats prove that.

Expected better from Horvath after he got promoted with Luton. But he's been very poor since joining and Alnwick is the best of a poor couple of keepers.

Miss the days of Marshall and Heaton

Alnwick frustrates the b-Jesus out of me.
It can be the 3rd minute and he looks to time waste or tempt the striker to get near him, before casually passing it sideways to Goutas. Trouble is by now the striker is no matter than a few feet away. So what does Goutas do? He panics and either plays it back to Alnwick… now really putting him in the shit or he twats it long to nobody and gives away possession.
The amount of times they do it needlessly playing roulette with the striker and nearly get caught is just nuts. Fecking clear the ball!

It's a disease in football yesterday happened several times goals scored from poor play out from back..... we need anwick to play ball quickly when he can and not stop to look around .... the problem is by slowing game down that much gives teams time to press even more so restricting movements forward

Matter of opinions.
I think Alnwick is a decent championship goalie and far better than Horvath who has been pretty poor.
I do agree on the need to sometimes release the ball quicker and that playing across the back four is a ‘modern football disease’.
What I found strange was not the votes for Alnwick, but that 2 people voted for Robinson. He did contribute to the build up for the goal, otherwise almost nil contribution. Usual trotting arould avoiding any challenges and tackles etc. Dreadful.

His poor handling from the corner indirectly led to their goal.

I personally think that there are much worse keepers at this level than Alnwick.

Alnwick is doing what he’s doing because that’s what he’s been told to do

Stats for everything, including shot stopping, show he is in the bottom six for Championship goalkeepers over a several year period.

Horvath is worse though in my opinion.

I don’t doubt that, but he has been in teams which are/have been towards the bottom of the league for quite a while.

Aaron Ramsdale is a prime example of how stats for a goalkeeper will change dependant on the team in which they play for.

Ramsdale was rated as one of the highest performing goalkeepers when he was at Bournemouth because of his save ratio.

The same isn't said about Alnwick - so don't agree it's because he's playing at a lower performing club.
