Its basic marketing to be fair to the club. They are enticing people into the shop, in the hope that they actually buy more than a mug and a pennant.
Judging by shirt sales, they are doing quite well, but they need to keep selling as there is a feel good factor around the place at the moment.

They've called me CARL!!!! 
They have the name right on my ambassador emails though, but the supporters email, I'm now Carl!
