help needed R.E police statements?

Me and my mate got into a scrap in Penarth Town Friday .
Im going to be fine . but my friend could go down for GBH . and has rang me to say that im the only one to save him going down.They were kicking and stamping him on the floor however he later in the night stamped on one of their faces on CCTV. What can i say in my statement to put a bit of leverage to his defence?

I think they will find them as separate incidents so not much you can say to be honest.

yes, most would stick up for their mates no matter what, but if you're found out in court then you could be done.
or you could say nothing and feel as if you have let him down.
very difficult to advise because either way could go against you.

Nowt you can do feller. The earlier trouble will have no bearing except to perhaps
prove your mates attack on them was premeditated. Sad but true
