Just listening to Gary Neville speak to Peter Drury on his podcast.
Gary Neville says about the competitive edge at the top of the Championship and parachute payments.
“There are exceptions which is why we were happy with the Luton story and Ipswich, but Ipswich have a bigger budget than Luton.
But the only reason you need a parachute is when there’s a large drop. If there wasn’t such a large drop between 20th in the Premier League and 1st in the Championship then you wouldn’t need a parachute, you’d need a step.
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a difference in money between the Premier League and the Championship, of course there should.
But it shouldn’t be £100m at the bottom of the Premier League and £5-6m at the top of the Championship. It just shouldn’t be, it never be that big a gap.
There is a significant liability to the rest of the Championship and you’re creating desperation, which we don’t want.”
Do you agree?

Ned ive banged on for several seasons now about the disparency between relegated clubs and championship! Relegated clubs have decided its not bad idea to reduce spending and yo yo for a couple of seasons to build up budget several have done it past coupleof seasons.....what I didn't realise until recently is the parachute payments form part of efl deal so upto 9 clubs are taking 75% of deal .... the results can be seen in how many relegated clubs are fighting for promotion compared to 4yrs ago... and not sure why premier league is apposed to stopping payments?
So yes parachute payments are dispotionatly high.

I hate to do it but I agree with him in this case.
The championship clubs as a whole are not getting anywhere near enough and everything will eventually implode as the teams cannot compete with the relegated clubs budget. It's all boom or bust & eventually everyone except the elite PL clubs will bust.

It's spot on. Statistically, the promoted teams are more likely to come either straight back down; or a couple of seasons and come down with major financial problems on the other side.
The 'prize' is so big, that clubs are gambling on a 3/24 chance on going up; to the point where it's unsustainable if they don't. Hull and Southampton sound like they're on the brink.
I'm surprised that the championship isn't sold more across the globe; as some of the drama is right up there. There is alot of dross, also - but I think it could get pitched globally as a major division for TV deals etc.
