Welsh football’s Cymru Premier is set to welcome:

Wed Apr 24, 2024 5:56 pm

What a waste of time the whole of it:

Welsh football’s Cymru Premier is set to welcome more clubs, Friday night games and the introduction of video assistant refereeing (VAR) as part of the biggest shake-up in the competition’s history.
Clubs were told of the plans by Football Association of Wales (FAW) officials this week.

There could be further changes in Welsh football's top division, with a new format due to be revealed later in the year.
It is understood that could see at least the first half of the season played on a regionalised basis, while the season may move to an earlier start in the calendar.
An independent panel will present its findings to clubs by September, but a number of plans have already been announced and given the green light by FAW bosses.
They include an increase in the number of teams from the current 12, although the exact number will be finalised when details of the format are provided.

Someone outside faw must be paying for it as it cost around £38k per match recently for wales games? Agree total waste of money for Cymru league..

Could call it forward thinking and ambitious but it could make efl looks silly though by not having it in championship at least.... but like say must be outside funding for it

I know someone who works for the EFL.

Don’t be surprised if VAR is in the Championship by 2025, it’ll be 2026 at the latest.

Monty the var is a scaled down version var-lite which could be a way to go for leagues like div 1 & 2 plus national league.... they are also changing to mostly Fri night games to avoid premier league and efl games to boost attendances ? Also the season will be starting earlier There will also be other changes implemented by 2026....... may be Mickey mouse league but at least they are doing something to help clubs what is or as efl done for clubs?

VAR is only as good as the humans operating it, in Scotland it’s done nothing to reduce controversy. Quite the reverse in fact.

A lot of clubs will struggle to get players available for friday night away games
as a lot of the players still work its an amateur league apart from Tns who are full time pro
thats why they win it every year and qualify for europe coining it in
run as a buisness not a football club they highjacked a welsh club llansanffriad played in wales for a few seasons then moved back to there base in oswestry
and clubs like newtown caernarvon bangor where forced out of playing in englands hfs loans league by the welsh faw
but they allow tns to stay in england double standards and they say they are good for welsh football they have milked and made millions in an ametuer league
while all the welsh clubs cannot match there finances very one-sided they do not have a club they use the oswestry sports club pitch not there own they bring outside catering in no clubhouse etc its all very strange.

Monty agree about tns cannot be good for league when club goes unbeaten for a season and not for 1st time either..... haven't they got a rich backer... maybe crowd answer is summer football? Like you say player commitments a problem but by same yoke Saturday not best for crowds with plenty alternatives ... but guess they are trying to do something

Rich owner mike harris he used to come to newtown a lot was trying to get his buisness into football but newtown is a proper football club his buisnes. Total network solutions was just looking for a club to hijack and he found village club on the border great for his buisness but not great for welsh grass roots football Faw need to be hauled over the coals for this but they say good profile tns for welsh football
I would say they are an english team playing in wales more st george flags around there sports stadium. I lost interest in the whole welsh set up but newtown is a good club and long history its a shame they cannot compete with paying players like tns 1/2,000 a week .

They could easily be in a english league but a small fish in a big pool no money to be made
Playing in welsh league big fish in a small pool
loads of money to be made professionals playing amateur's.

Spot on Monty, they can take the Champions League money every season so no benefit from a business side for them to go into English pyramid.

The reason for changes is to boost the league in eyes of eufa ... it was discussed on radio Wales with Rob tonight whilst didn't hear all of it basically var-lite is to fall inline with uefa requirements in the future.... and to boost leagues coefficients so a extra club can enter Europe.

I’m involved with Cymru premier lge, (director of a club) I personally know Mike Harries( went to his wedding last year), What Mike is dong is taking the lge forward and it’s up to us (other teams) to catch them. Would the lge be better off with worse footballers? Surely standards would drop?

He is setting the standard for the lge and we need to match it.
Same situation as EPL, you have top 6 who are always winning lge (exception Leicester).

I’ll be in Cardiff tomorrow and Rotherham next week, if anyone would like to know more information regarding Cymru PL let me know and I’ll happily meet up and have a chat about lge.

Any league is only as good as the teams in it! Several European leagues use to be only 2 team leagues....ffs bayen won last how many titles now another team as caught them up hopefully same happen in Cymru league... think the introduction of city swans ect youngsters will help it as well ....
