Other than the defence we all know that back up for Jay is needed as we rely on him so much because he is a major cog in our system.
There have been a load of names banded about eg Steve Howard etc
But realistically who would you want?
Brian Laws has come out today and said that some of his squad can look elsewhere. Would a move for ex favourite Steve Thompson be out of the question?

I'd love to see Stevie Thompson back but it won't happen. I loved the look of Jay Rodriguez but I think he's too big time now. I'd take Steve Howard. He's good at what he does.

DJ didn't like Steve Thompson and I think it got personal... like so many others. I thought he was great, but didn't score enough, did he?

I would take Steve Howard who would do a good job when required

Thompson is nowhere near good enough.
Can't even get into Burnley's side.
Most of the players I'd like are probably not available. Iwelomo, Parkin, Hulse, Graham (Watford), Priskin. Also looks like stead and Howard have passed us by. But maybe Best from Newcastle could be available and he would be class. We'd have to cough up a fee though and I'm not certain we'll have any funds in Jan. Morison would be good as well, but again he'd command a decent fee. That ex-Bristol Rovers striker at Southampton (forgot his name) is a big lad who knocks in loads - but again we'd be looking at a big fee.

When he's controlling his weight he is an awesome player.
Not only frightening in the air, but a handful on the floor.
Underrated IMHO.

I still believe Steve Howard would be the main guy even if age is against him.
He has a bully attitude about him on the pitch. He caused havoc against us at CCS in play offs last season aswell.
DJ get on the phone to Sven!!

Yes, Steve promised so much when he scored a brace (and one was an absolute beauty!!) on his home debut....
Steve Howard?? Not for me....too old and too predictabe. Only a defence like ours would have a problem playing him!!

Agreed. Steve Howard is like a lot of 'bully boy' strikers. As soon as a defender gives him
one back he has no plan B. He relies on the 'fear factor' to give him that little bit of space!
Roger Johnson or even Darren Purse would have had him in their pocket. Or even Anthony
Gerrard!!!

Johnson and Purse have come off a poor 2nd best in the physical aspect of things agains tother big men. Abebola and parkin are 2 which come to mind immediately.
Johnson was very skinny, although he was athletic and brave he didn't have the muscle to deal with the real monsters.
Purse just wasn't actuall all theat big.
Gerrard aint big enough either. Don't forget Parkin led Preston to 3-0 up there last season with Gerrard and Gyepes playing centre half. Not forgetting that big long haired lump up front from Newcastle demolishing us at St James'.

Steve Howard has always torn us to shreds so you cannot blame the current defence.
I went to Luton on Boxing day quite a few years back and Steve Howard looked like Lionel Messi that day! Tore us apart.
Howard is a class act but we needed to sign him when he went to Derby. Too late now but I guess when you're looking for back-up it's either got to be player approaching the end of their career looking for a pay day or a youngster out to prove themselves. So maybe Howard is the answer.
Stead, Parkin, Lambert et al are pretty much nailed on first choices and won't come to us to watch Jay play!
We need to unlock a gem from league 1 or 2. There must be one knocking around.
Craig Davies who lead the line for Chesterfield against Sheffield Wednesday the other night looked a bit handy. Isn't he Welsh too?
