‘ Cardiff at Bradford’

Sat Apr 06, 2024 11:23 am

It was 1994 , I was there but Cardiff will always be my first club , but my 2 yrs of living in Bradford in the 80’s I made so many great friends and still to this day my 2 yrs living there, were probably 2 of the best years of my life and I watched Bradford home & away on numerous times and became very good friends with the Ointment and Bradford will have s special place for me.

I was totally neutral that day regarding what happened. But both turned out big and Cardiff arrived early via Halifax in big numbers that day, OB never had a clue. Cardiff had 2 coaches booked in Halifax as a wedding party.

Every time Cardiff were not playing , I was at a Bradford game and even travelled to Cardiff on the Ointment coach in 1982/83 season.

This photo is Cardiff fans being escorted to the ground after they had come of the Bradford interchange and attacked a Bradford pub called the Market Tavern in the City Centre.

After the game it was toe to toe.

Remember the train from Halifax to Bradford was packed with Cardiff, they had one hell of a shock when we came out of the station

I was living in Bradford in a place called frizinghall , about a mile from the ground

It was bedlam and the local papers , the telegraph and argus and Yorkshire Post and look north tv news were full of reports about how cardiff city fans had terrorised Bradford before the game

We got away from the city centre so didn't see any of the trouble but after the game as you came out of the away end it was rough so we walked into town to take another route home but it was difficult to avoid it

The police were taken by surprise as they were at Huddersfield when about 200 went up by coach to Manchester and got the train in

Bradford is a rough place but they couldn't cope I reckon there was about 1500 city up there, god knows what it would have been like if there was something on the game

Did we go down that season ? I can't remember

I was there that day, bit of fun prior to the match, also if I remember right some Bradford fans came in our dtand and got kicked back down the stairs. Think it was the Charlie Brown stand.

Watched the days events as a neutral , Cardiff came into the pub we were drinking in before the game with no escort , so i tagged along.

Before the game Cardiff attacked one of pubs in the city centre, sandwich board through the window , with a flare coming the other way from Bradford.

After the game a toe to toe behind the away end with the old bill on horses trying to separate both sides.

Some decent photos of town centre attack and after the game.
