5 man midfield or 4-4-2?

Fri Oct 08, 2010 10:05 am

As Carl Curtis' posts have pretty much always been correct and he let us know that Drinkie is out for a while I would like to know who everyone would want to see as our first team.

The 5 man midfield had been looking extremely promising with

Drinkwater Oli

Burke Whitts Bellamy

With no Drinkwater how would you set the team up now?

Do we still play a 5 man midfield?

I think with Drinkwaters' pace and industriousness he will be sorely missed and while I love McPhail's ability to pick a pass, it is the dog work that needs doing from that position. Rae gives the ball away too easily and in that part of the park and with our lack of pace at central defence we need someone there who can retain possession, break up play and get the ball moving to one of our creative players.

While Jason Koumas is one of my favourite players ever to grace Ninian Park, his impact so far at our new home but has been pretty poor and he couldn’t play in that workhorse position anyway as that’s not his game. He is more there to work as a sub on the left when King Craig is injured or being rested.

Are we looking a true 4-4-2 upon Chopra's return (I know we have been playing with Keough but it's been more through having a lack of fit playing staff)

are we now going for

Oli

Burke Whittingham Bellamy

Chops Jay

While there is a lot of skill and pace, it does put an awful amount of pressure for Oli to have to clean up from a very lighweight midfield.

But we certainly have goals in there and when that clicks we can batter anyone in this league, but come November 27th, we need a team who can stand up to QPR's physicality.

Having seen numerous Warnock teams over the years (remember how dirty Palace were when Ross scored that late winner away? Chops getting clattered by Derry and Roger the victim of a cowardly assault) we know that with a lightweight team we may be kicked around the park all day long.

This is now more a ramble than a post and I really have got work to get on with, so shall leave those points with you chaps.

Who is starting against the Wurzels?
