Erol Bulut reveals two Cardiff City signings 'close' and admits interest in star but says to 'delete' one rumour

Cardiff City are close to two new signings and are interested in Fenerbahce striker Umut Nayir, manager Erol Bulut has revealed.

The Bluebirds are keen to bolster their ranks this month, with a particular interest in adding to their forward ranks before the deadline on February 1. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Turkey striker Nayir has been out of favour at Fenerbahce this season after a prolific campaign in front of goal for Eyupspor last term. And Bulut admitted he is one name on the list.

"Many players are on our target," he said. "It doesn’t say only we are looking for those players. When we make offers, it doesn’t mean next day he is here. Other clubs are also talking to those players. It’s not so easy. It’s economics, what you can do and in this we have a little bit of problems. We try hard to get some players in. I hope in a few days we can finalise.

"It is not only him. We have a few players, strikers, on our target. We cannot focus on only one player. If we don't get it then we don't have another option. Umut Nayir is one of those players we are interested in, like Kieffer Moore, like how we said at the start of the season.

"We want him [Moore], but two or three clubs are interested in him. It's also a point from his club that they need to buy a striker. It takes time for them to let him go. And I lose time because of this. So I need options. I have these options, Umut Nayir and one or two other players where I can immediately take one of them. If not then I have nothing.

"It's not only up to us. It's also a bit about the club, the player, like this we will continue."

Asked if anything is close, Bulut replied: "We are close to two players, yes, but we haven't finalised anything. It can be quick, tomorrow, but it can also be next week that it is finished."

One player who has been constantly linked with Cardiff is Anastasios Bakasetas, the Trabzonspor playmaker who is wanted by Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig.

However, Bulut has categorically ruled out a move for the Greece captain, admitting Cardiff are unable to compete financially for his signature.

"About Bakasetas, I would love to have him here, but it would not be a possibility to bring him here," the Bluebirds boss added.

"We have to delete this from our minds. Cancel it and not focus too much on Bakasetas, because he has really good offers from big clubs like Besiktas and Panathinaikos want him back.

"We can not deal with them at the same level."

I read on Tuesday that we had submitted a bid for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Dani de Wit. Obviously it’s just paper talk and we are in silly season for transfers.

Whoever the players are, I very much think they will be surprises. :bluescarf:

Umut Nayir may be one of them.

He came off the bench for Fenerbahce yesterday, but all Turkish sources suggest they will let him leave this month.
