Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Fri Dec 29, 2023 11:02 pm

Erol Bulut:

Talking about the defeat by Leicester:

“Today I can speak only positive things about my team.”

“We made many positive things in the game, the pressing section, winning the ball, the details change football. One example, first half, when we concede the first goal, pressure on us, we lose the ball and they score. Second half, we had nearly the same situation, but the final pass was not good enough. These are the small details that makes the result of the game.”

"We have to continue to work on it. I think we are in a positive way. A good way. We cannot compare ourselves with Leicester City. Now it looks like we are 14th, five points away from the play-offs. Three games before we were six points away, before this game we were two points away.”

Well I didn't see much pressing by us.

Seemed as if we just let Leicester have as much of the ball as they wanted and put them under virtually no pressure at all .

Looked like a training session for them at times.

He’s right in his assessment to be honest.

I just hope he’s got a good shopping list, and Tan will back him. With the right reinforcements, there is no reason we can’t make top 6.

What a load of shite!!

It was a stroll in the park for Leicester and should have been 3 or 4

Showed them too much respect especially 1st half..slightly better 2nd half but still completely outplayed

Re: Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Agree we didnt press enough in the first half and sat deep, when we did press later on we won the second balls and had a good 10 min spell.

Tonight i finally thought we need minimum of 6 players new, we have a bunch of hard working dedicated players but thats it. We got no magic, no dribbling, no creativity.

Colwill was good when he come on but got moved with the injury which was disapointing

Mate.
Look at the quality of that team compared to ours, it’s no contest.
It wasn’t a case of giving them too much respect, it was a case of trying to play the game as tactically as possible to get a result.

If we went at them all guns blazing, it would have been a mauling.
He’s just tried to do the best game plan.

I’d rather lose by 4 or 5 by going after them and getting in their faces, it gets the crowd up by pressing from the front. Losing 2-0 and not even laying a glove on them is an insult to all who attended. Everyone’s favourite Bulut is too negative and if we don’t win against QPR then he’s going to face some tough questions.

Agree the odd times we pressed we looked better. All this slow build up and playing out from the back is no good when you don't have the players capable. How many more times are the cbs gonna keep playing us into pressure

Asking McGuiness and Goutas to play out from the back is like asking KFC for a Big Mac.

My point is, initially surely you could see the tactics was to stop Leicester playing, and nick a goal.
Sometimes, you have to play like this to get a result against superior opposition.

Leicester, Leeds, Southampton are streets ahead of 90% of this division.

I can 100% understand why Bulut put out the team he did.

The problem with that approach of course is that the moment you go behind that approach is worthless and you then have to try to change the way you play in order to find a way back into the game.

I'd much prefer that we started the game positively and tried to take the game to our opponents. Yes it may not work but the current approach is hardly working great is it?

Looks like pretty much everyone disagrees with you?

Starting so slowly and giving them too much respect made it just so easy for them

I agree with you they have better players than us so trying to play it out from the back and out pass them is a complete waste of time

When we did get at them in the second half it was much more of a contest but unfortunately it was all over by then

Felt like we knew we'd lose tonight just went through the motions. Leicester best in the league but only justified if we beat QPR

Ditto. Absolutely bang on!

It doesn't matter who the opponent is barring perhaps Man City, but yet again at home, we did not press, we didn't show any aggressive intent or close down / Harry the opposition.

I want to see my team give the maximum and they bloody well were not, particularly in midfield and up top. Etete might as well have been replaced by a mannequin as that would have has a greater impact! He was hopeless and not worth his wages!

Good crowd tonight and more passive, crab like football from us.

Bulut: it's down to you and your tactics, motivation and instructions to the players.
I understand Leicester have extra quality but do you think teams like Ipswich, Plymouth and Coventry would be so passive abd submissive in a home match against them??

Re: Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Sat Dec 30, 2023 1:02 am

We gave away any advantage we could have had with the fans getting right behind the team from the off by being so negative and placid. Fans need some action to get them off their feet.I didn't expect us to beat Leicester tonight but I at least thought we'd have a go at them. First half was like an attack v defence training session.

Re: Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Sat Dec 30, 2023 1:03 am

A really good manager can take a group of average players and turn them into a good team. However, Bulut has taken a bunch of average players and turned them into ......... an average team.
He's not the worse manager we've ever had but he's far from being the best either. Despite their many failings I'm pretty sure that Neil Warnock - for example - would get much more from this group.

Re: Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Sat Dec 30, 2023 2:05 am

Also a positive. We don’t have to play Leicester again so we haven’t got that hanging over us later in the season when we may need to go on a run!!

Re: Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Sat Dec 30, 2023 7:43 am

My View:

We took 63 mins and 25 seconds for us to muster one shot on target - and we were the home team. How positive was that? Leicester never moved out of first gear and should have won 4-0

And every game we are struggling upfront.

The positive was we battled, but every club raises their game against the league leaders.

Philosophy and preferred tactics are great but your job as manager is to gel a group of 22 individuals into a team. We arenot doing that.
Competing ugly is fine if that is all we can do, the fans can accept that, but continually asking players to do stuff they can't do whilst sticking to your philosophy is plain daft or naive

McGuiness, Goutas and especially Collins can not be trusted with the ball in tight situations, Leicester were very athletic and organised and when they pressed, they did it with conviction.

Ralls, Siopis and Wintle are primarily stoppers not none of them are really creators, they have the odd pass in them but they are dogs, but they were chasing shadows as their players were up to the physicality but had composure on the ball- Next level players

The front three are a mess. I am not sure I can recall many big lads anywhere being able to press and if you are playing with a target man you can forget a team press because they just can't cover the ground, then we go onto the wingers. None of our wingers can do what he wants to do. Grant is the only one with the physicality to cover the ground but the jury is out if he is a winger in this system

Bulut had what he had when he walked through the door. He knew what was there it is his job to get us through the season and improve the club's position from when he came. So on that front, he is doing well. But for me, i would have liked to see a change or appreciation that sometimes you need to dig it out.
Yesterday we could have gone all Warnock and smacked it long to a Meite and Etette with Wintle, NG, Sio waiting for the second ball. It would have looked basic and if it didn't work he could hold his hands up and tell us the truth that there were few ways we were ever going to beat them, so we tried this...... I would have been happy

We were lucky that Leicester were here to do the job that it stayed at 2-0. The club must be planning to back him to play his way as he doesn't look that adapatable at the moment.

Re: Erol Bulut feels plenty of positives after tonight:

Sat Dec 30, 2023 10:23 am

We are just too “nice” as a team, where are the leaders?

A Warnock team would have had 6 yellow cards last night and the crowd behind them

They may not have won, in all honesty they probably would have lost but at least Leicester team would have known they were in a game and been knackered this morning
