Erol Buluts team have struggled for the last 6 weeks with only 2 wins from 10 games and the football has been poor to watch, but thankfully the last game against struggling Plymouth was much more entertaining.
City take on runaway leaders Leicester City this Friday night.


Manager Erol Bulut believes Cardiff City need January signings to maintain their Championship play-off push.


Backing in January and new contract:


“I need fully backing in January and we need to discuss a new contract as we have not discussed it yet.”

Bulut has said he wants five to six players in the new year and Tan will be the one writing and signing-off the cheques. He has said he won't overspend, but the Bluebirds boss hopes that talks with the owner are fruitful and the squad can be revamped, starting next week.

“The Plymouth game was much better," Bulut said of the draw with Plymouth. "We said when we saw the last games, football is mostly about confidence. If you have confidence and believe in your team-mates, even when you pass five or six metres to your team-mate, with confidence you always feel better and I am pleased with what I saw.”

"One mistake, two mistake then you don’t ask so much for the ball. Of course when you have pressure and concede the goal… sometimes football is like this. Sometimes the experienced player does not have as much confidence as the younger player.”

“We will have talks with the players, I want 5-6 new players this January, some will have to leave.”

"For me, Ramsey & O’Dowda are like two transfers. It's important to get him back," Bulut said of the injured duo. "[Ramsey] didn't start training with us yet. O'Dowda started training with us. I hope O'Dowda comes with us quickly. Not next week, but maybe in two weeks, I hope”

"We don't want to risk [Ramsey], where he starts too early and he gets injured again. We don't want to risk it and Ramsey wouldn't like it. We have to manage it really well and hopefully February he will be playing.”

“Aaron Ramsey hasn’t started training yet so hopefully he trains in January and fit for February , but Callum O’Dowda has started back with us. I hope he’ll be back playing maybe not next week, but the week after he can start to play a bit.”


“ Kion Etete had a hamstring problem from previous games, so I didn’t want to push him back. “


Ramsey and O’Dowda have played only 6 games this season out of 26 League and Cup games.

"They are a high-quality team - they were relegated last season and they kept nearly all the players," Bulut said.

"The first game when we played over there [in August], we could win the game. At 1-1 we had chances to score the second goal, then 90 plus two minutes, we lost the game. This is football."

I think Plymouth were entertaining not us. Same old negative football, sideways, backwards and no structure to our play. Let's be honest, we should have lost against a newly promoted side who haven't won away all season. Took an own goal and a cracking opportunist strike to scrape a draw.

I'm hoping for quality signings in January especially a couple of creative midfielders who go on the front foot.

“They are a team who got relegated last season, they have high quality players and you can see that on the field," Erol began. "But, that doesn’t say that the game on Friday, everybody can think about it one way.

"This is football, you never know. Against Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, I have had many games like this in my career."

“We will give everything to get points against Leicester, but you have to see what you have in your hand and what the opponent has in theirs. When you compare, we have to ask if it is possible.

"I think, when we are well-concentrated, when you see the game at Leicester, how we played there, we could have won there.

"We lost the game in the 92nd minute. Before that, we had two or three chances to lead. We couldn’t manage to score and they did, so it could have been different.”


“This was clear already at the start of the season for me," Erol added. "They kept nearly all of their players, maybe one or two they sold, like Leeds also. But they kept a lot of players.

"For them, it was clear that they wanted to get promoted again. Many teams now are fighting against these teams and many teams are fighting for the sixth position. Let’s see at the end of the season.“
